I agree Toad. I've been saying for some time that to potential new members it just looks like an overcomplicated circle-jerk. 90% of the regular users are staff members which may suggest to the casual visitor that it is a clique board (which we know it isn't of course but it is an all too common problem on other forums) and it's just too busy on the eye. I still don't check all the forums regularly to see if I've missed anything because I don't have the patience. I can understand why newcomers often wouldn't bother either. Unless they are friendless keyboard lickers like Lazario of course.

Well, if the guest are being bombarded with pop ups like I have been, there is yet another reason to not join up. Anyway, I'm fine with cleaning things up. Toad is right, there are too many threads that are pretty much just taking up space. I'm also fine with y'all taking away my mod status, to have one less staff member posting regularly. The only thing I ask is you keep the Asian board going (even though there seemingly is not a huge amount of interest right now, I still have hope that someday we will have new members that will like having it here). Or perhaps just create a Foreign Horror section? But the thing is, people lose interest, they join and don't post (which is why most of the people that are posting now are staff members, I mean we have 118 members, and what, 10, maybe 15 are staff members right?). And this has happened at several of the boards I have been a member at. I'm not sure how to fix that. We're friendly, we're knowledgeable.....all we can do is do what has been suggested, and then see if that helps.

Not that I have any solutions, but I can only offer how I (as a casual poster, I would say) picks what threads I will respond to: I simply click the thing at the bottom that says "ten most recent posts" or something like that. I never actually click on any of the boards, simply because, like GP, there are so many of them, I wouldn't know where to begin checking.

Sounds like we have similar views.
Dozens of different boards on topics like Phantasm and F13 might be fine if we had 100 plus active members, but we don't. And once you've said your bit on a series that's dead (like Phantasm).. well that's it.
Toad thinks if we were newsier - with just a general horror board, a cult/exploitation board, and general and Asian films boards - it would be a lot more manageable (and active).
If you feel the need to say something about Halloween 3 for example, and that thread has lain dormant two pages back for a while, just use the search function and bump it back up to the top with a new post.
Toad loves the people here. We're all reasonably erudite (except Toad when he's pissed in charge of a keyboard) and passionate about our genre, and - with very rare exceptions - get along better than most other forums Toad has ever known.
Toad would recommend no more than a dozen main boards, with the only permanent threads being the likes of 'last horror movie watched' and 'DVD purchases' etc.
Some of these might be:
BLOODSUCKING FREAKS (horror) - one sticky thread on rate the last horow movie you've seen, the rest can wax and wane as interest ebbs and flows.
THE TRASH CAN (cult, exploitation and sleaze) - just let it flow on topics like Italian post-apocalypse films and nun-sploitation
THE MULTIPLEX - mainstream films
BANGKOK HILTON - everything Asian
DIGITAL RETRIBUTION (sorry Craig) - one sticky on recent purchases and then general discussion of new releases, hard to find titles etc etc
CULTURE VULTURE - music, literature and the arts with maybe a couple of sticky threads on the likes of 'last book read/concert attended/CD bought' etc
THE CHATTERBOX - general gibberish on whatever takes your fancy
MEMBERS AREA - a sticky for 'introduce yourself' - a sticky for 'comments and suggestions' - a sticky for 'post your photos'.
PLAY STATION - an area for games such as 'what scene is this?', 'name the movie quote', and what ever else people dream up in the way of tag lines, three word movie quizzes or whatever.
UNRATED - retain this for long-standing/mature members where we can have a bit of fun and be a tad more politically incorrect or risque than on the general boards.
Anyway... just a few thoughts. What do you fellas reckon?

I very much like Toad's idea (and examples of) the "less is more" philosophy. I think that the intentions here are great, but that some (relatively) serious: updating (maybe a little less kitsch with the backgrounds and such), and reordering.
I've noticed a theme between most successful boards - that is simplicity.
It also, I think, feeds off of itself. That is to say, when the board is slowed down, so slows down the motivation to post - for fear of wasting time writing something that will not be read.
But yeah, I agree with everything Toad said about the posters here. A classy group.
For the record, I am not just blindly criticizing, I would be more than glad to lend a hand to whatever may be needed.

As much as I resist change and love comfort, I am with Toad on this one. I have to object to the name "Bangkok Hilton" however, as if it weren't explained to me I'd have to wonder why the Paris Hilton sex tape got its own section

I am up for a change as well. Not too drastic but we have had the same template for a long time now. Now the only problem is getting Phantoms ass on here more . I have no acces to coding or anything like that. Even if I did I am not that great at it LOL. But I will message Phantom on Facebook and see what he says.

as a guest i have checked this site out a couple of times, my thoughts ~
1> it doesn't look like a serious board, all the backgrounds, flashy colours everywhere, huge avatars & signatures etc, its not a fashion display it should be a horror forum.
2> you have wholes sections for elm street, f13 etc, don't get me wrong i like the movies but these are yesterdays news, and when i say yesterday i mean 15 years, your all to far behind the times
