The time is coming near for the release (or re-re-release) of two entries in this great series: the original Phantasm and Phantasm III: Lord of the Dead. Just thought I'd remind everyone with some special features and more:
PHANTASM will sport a 1.85:1 transfer with Dolby Digital Surround 5.1 EX, DTS 5.1 and Dolby 2.0 Surround soundtracks, plus the following special features:
• Audio commentary by writer/director Don Coscarelli and stars Michael Baldwin, Angus Scrimm and Bill Thornbury • Deleted scenes • PHANTASM: Behind the Scenes featurette • PHANTASM: Actors Having a Ball featurette • Phantasmagoria featurette • PHANTASM and PHANTASM III trailers • TV Spots • 1979 PHANTASM interview • 1988 FANGORIA TV commercial with Scrimm
Streets April 10th.
Phantasm III will be presented in anamorphic 1.85:1 widescreen with Dolby 5.1, DTS 5.1 and Dolby Digital 2.0 stereo audio tracks; extras include:
• Audio commentary by stars Michael Baldwin and Angus Scrimm • PHANTASM III: Behind the Scenes featurette • Deleted scene • PHANTASM and PHANTASM III trailers • DVD-ROM screenplay
Also streets April 10th.

Well, the sphere isn't R1, so we miss out on a lot of great stuff there, but this is the first time part 3 has one here, and the previous ones for the original are OOP so this isn't exactly double-dip for most of us.

Fair enough. Though you really should invest in an all regions player, or get the hack sode to turn your machine into one.

I've been saving for one, but then some Euro-horror film gets released or LdC has a large sale and I spend most of what I've saved up on them. One of these days, I just have to learn to say "Maybe when I'm older, I can pick it up."

Never been very good at that sort of self-discipline. Mind you, when you are living in R4 land you'll miss out on too much if you can't import from a combination of the distributors simply not releasing here, or the films being refused classifiation in Australia (ie banned). Lucky Australian Customs is so bloody slack!

And the part that really infuriates me is that I have a ton of discipline in so many other areas that I find it odd I can't when confronted with DVD purchasing. It's also to the point of addiction, but I don't have a problem. It's not like I'm spending rent money on the things.

Some news on the behind-the-scenes making of these DVDs, as well as a couple of other little nuggets about the series as well as Bubba Nosferatu: www.fangoria.com/fearful_feature.php

Well, this is dfinitely a bit o a double dip IMO, but that doesn't change the fact that some of the extras on these seem like they are gonna be really sweet. I think that Phantasm is popular enough, however, to warrant a R1 box set release. I don't intend to buy these until that happens, becaus that is innevitably coming and will be the most irritating double dip of all

I finally broke down and ordered the R2 Sphere Box set.
I don't see a R1 box set any time in the near or distant future.

I love that this is coming back into print, people in my position can finally get the chance to see what the old-timers have been going on lovingly about while they merely ramble on about how much they want to see this.

that's true. Its just tha we all know that these re-releases are going to be compiled into a box set in the not too distant future so I plan to wait for that rather than get sucked into buying this twice. The film is definitely awesome and you should grab it

I'm with BD on this one, HNT. Parts 2 nad 4 should've been giving releases as well, yet Coscarelli has said that there was no plans he knows of to release those two (it's in the interview I posted) and the two are released through AB, while Part 2 is still over at Universal and is with MGM. That's three studios for the four films. Not likely to happen in the next couple of years.

well, that pretty much sucks. Now I have o consider buying these again. Oh well, they ae good flicks so i isn't gonna be money completely wasted. I wish the studios could see the value in working this ot, though, and sell their intersts to AB so they can produce a difinitive set
