“Hellworld VIII: Hellworld” is a pretty decent entry that gives the Cenobites more screen-time than before.
**SPOILERS**
Chelsea, (Kathryn Winnick) Derrick, (Khary Payton) Allison, (Anna Tolputt) Mike, (Henry Cavill) and Jake, (Christopher Jacot) all fans of the Hellworld online computer game, are invited to a party held by the Hellworld organization. The host of the event, (Lance Henriksen) tells them all fantastic tales about the house’s past, which Chelsea doesn’t take too seriously. As the others enjoy the party, she wanders around and begins to think that her deceased friend isn’t dead. As the others enjoy the party, the friends are suddenly killed off in the house, and Chelsea can’t get anyone to admit they’re trapped in the house. As more hallucinations and experiences haunt the friends, they begin to wonder if what they are seeing is hallucinations or the results of Pinhead’s (Doug Bradley) designs to torture them for their past sins.
The Good News: This is pretty much a love-it-or-hate-it entry, and there’s enough for both camps to pick at. The film is much more violent than the previous ones combined. This is a gorehounds film through and through, and we get some impressive gory deaths. There is a great decapitation, another is ripped apart by chains, and the most inventive one is a device attached to the neck that digs saw-blades into the neck, among many other great deaths. All of them quite graphic, as the blood really flows and splashes here. Just like the early ones, Pinhead gets a fair amount of screen-time, and wisely isn’t spouting cheap jokes at the victims expense. The other Cenobites are involved heavily as well, so getting them back into the film is pretty great. It is mostly due to the house itself that the most amount of suspense and shocks for this type of film. It’s a pretty creepy house, and most of the great ones come from the basement. It’s perhaps the best one of the rooms. All the little gags that play out in the different rooms of the house are pretty good as well. The pretty chilling one involving Chelsea and a cell-phone is one of the better ones, and the pay-off is great. You can also take your pick about whether or not the frequent hallucinations are creepy or not, as some of them are. The fake-stabbing is the best of these, with a knock-out of a twist that is quite creative. Other gags work well too, but those are the best written ones. They all compile into a very fast pace that always keeps things moving along, so it isn’t that hard to loose yourself into the movie. It’s moving along from one scene to another, and it comes across as never having a dull spot. This is a great advantage to the film.
The Bad News: As stated earlier, there is a pretty hefty share of dream sequences in here, and after a while, this can become a big bore. It keeps happening, so after a while, it becomes just another cheap gag. It also has more of a mind-less romp feel to it, which is a crime against the series as they have always been a bit more cerebral, not this time. It’s a change that may not be for the better.
The Final Verdict: This is one of the better sequels out there, and it stands as a fairly enjoyable films in the series. Depending on the tolerance you have for false alarms, this could be a real dark-horse. See it if you’re an open-minded fan of the series and want to see a return to the early days, but those that are far more demanding of their Hellraiser films will want to exorcize caution.
Rated R: Graphic Violence, Nudity, Graphic Language and several sex scenes

It's a really good entry, just don't think of it in terms of the original two.

This is the only other sequel I have seen, and I didn't hate it. In fact, I liked it better than I expected to. I think it had some darn good ideas actually, but no, you can't really compare it to the first two or you will hate it. I will give it a three, ONLY because there isn't a 2.5 option there. Its definitely weaker than a 3 rating. But since I did enjoy it....I will be generous.

Ive totally lost faith in the Hellraiser series, never saw this one and I don't plan to, Id rather sit and watch Halloween resurrection a billion times.........well maybe not.
Why does every movie made these days have to bombard you with the latest trends, they no longer make movies anymore, they make hour and a half long cell phone commercials.

this one and Deader are yet to see the light of day in Oz,and they sure aren't the kind of thing i'd import.they'd would be weekly rentals at best, and only if there was absolutely nothing else.

See this one before any of the others, you two. It's easily the best sequel after the originals. You'd really like it.

Um, was this even a Hellraiser movie? I know it has the title but that's about it. Honestly it felt like I was watching a remake of the early 90's film The Club, except at the last minute the film makers remembered it was called Hellraiser and tacked on a coda to that effect. I knew there was a reason why I avoided this for so long.

I still think it's one of the more enjoyable entries in the whole franchise. Far, far better than Deader and this one has a lot more Pinhead for that fact.

Funny, I think Hellraiser is the only series that I actually enjoy them all. Even going back to Inferno, I liked it a lot better the second time around. I actually think this is one of the weaker ones, but I still had fun with it. I can see why some would hate it though. But to be fair, Pinhead isn't consistent in most of them. Almost all of them have a really different feel to them. I think that is one of the reasons I like them, I don't feel like I am watching the exact same film over and over again.

It's been ages since I've seen a Hellraiser film, but I do remember coming close to feeling that exact same way, Jen. It's one of the few series (running longer than four entries) where I actually have fun with the entire collection, as I even felt the same way you did about Inferno. On first viewing, I found it to be utter dreck and absolutely worthless, yet when a second viewing, helped along by the fact that it was now uncensored while the first viewing wasn't, made a bit of an uprising in impression that rarely, rarely happens to me on multiple viewings since I usually find I like it less when I keep seeing it since I'm not surprised by what happened anymore the way I was the first time.
So the sequels aren't as iconic as the first two. Big deal. Doesn't make them any less off than they are.
