From Bloody-Disgusting.com'Hell' Will Be Raised on January 9, 2009
After deciding to rewrite the screenplay, Dimension Films has announced a new date for their remake of Hellraiser, which will be helmed by those incredible French directors Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury. Pinhead will once again grace the big screens on January 9, 2009 - mark your calander. The tale of a man and wife who move into an old house and discover a hideous creature - the man's half-brother, who is also the woman's former lover - hiding upstairs. Having lost his earthly body to a trio of S&M demons, the Cenobites, he is brought back into existence by a drop of blood on the floor. He soon forces his former mistress to bring him his necessary human sacrifices to complete his body... but the Cenobites won't be happy about this. Yeah, well, that is obviously the exact plot of the original, making this even more pointless than I originally thought possible. I hope that everyoe involved in this debacle suffers from a bad case of painful gonads

I hope that everyoe involved in this debacle suffers from a bad case of painful gonads Well, at this point, I think we can only guess at the plot...not sure that the plot as it is reported there will be the exact one. Since they have no screenplay.... Well, hey they can always just use the orginal one...that way no thought at all needs to be put into it....pffft. I tend to agree, its definitely pointless, totally unnecessary. I was interested when I first heard Barker was writing the screenplay, but since they have apparently passed on his....I'm not exactly jumping for joy here. I guess we'll see. Maybe it will share more similarities with the novella, if that is the case, it might be okay. Ah, I am forever the optimist aren't I?

Yes you are, JEn. I think that they could tell you that they were going to make it a G rated musical starring the Care Bears as Cenobites and say that they consider it more of a "reimagining" than a remake" (yeah fuck you Rob Zombie) and you'd still find a way to be positive. BUt that is a good character trait, lol

BUt that is a good character trait, lol LOL....well, while I wouldn't go quite that far....yes, I do try, thanks.... But I think you have a pretty good idea of how tired I am of that "reimagining" crap....ugh. I do try to give them a chance.....but yeah, Zombie's Halloween is a great example of why I am usually sorry for giving them that chance.

From ShockTillYouDrop.comEXCL: Feast Scribes Board Hellraiser Remake Source:Ryan Rotten February 16, 2008
They are angels to some, demons to others...writers Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton have recently signed a deal with The Weinstein Company to pen the upcoming Hellraiser remake.
Dunstan and Melton cut their teeth on the Hollywood horror scene thanks to the DVD success of Feast, a creature feature distributed by Dimension. Since then they have penned Lionsgate's $125 million worldwide-grossing Saw IV and this year's Saw V.
Dunstan is currently in principal photography on Dimension's Midnight Man based on a script he co-penned with Melton.
The Weinstein brothers recently set a release date of January 9, 2009 for Hellraiser after it was evident directors Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury were never going to make the initial (unrealistic) September bow.

No no no no. WHY can't they leave a good thing to age like fine wine???
Clive Barker ROCKS but I guess when the old dollar sign pops up, even he has to bow.

What kills me is that they passed on Barker's script from what I read sometime back. But then again, I haven't heard anything new about this for awhile. It might have been postponed, or it might not happen at all (okay, that's pretty doubtful, I'm sure it will be remade eventually).

I'm sorry Jen since it's one of your favorite series, but you're sadly right, a remake is inevitable. Be it next year or in 5. A script by Barker could save it possibly though, that's stupid they passed on it.

True, the only thing that can save the remake of this one would be to let Barker have complete control over, which I know will never happen. All in all I must bad, bad, bad idea.

Cool a horror forum where people hate remakes as much as I do, why why why, thats all I have to say. But yeah let Barker write it, I see nothing wrong with the original film maker remaking a movie.

Latest rumour has the My Bloody Valentine 3D team of Todd Farmer and Patrick Lussier attached to the remake. I'm not to keen on this choice, though. I very much enjoyed MBV and am looking forward to Drive Angry as well, but don't their style fits in with the Hellraiser series. I was hoping they would do Halloween 3 instead.

I find myself more invested in a film simply because it's a horror film than who the creative crew is, so news like that means absolutely nothing, especially as I haven't seen it yet (damn thing hasn't come on cable yet, and it's infuriating that it hasn't yet) so I don't really care about stuff like that.

I must say I'm having a laugh at some of the old posts of mine in this thread. I guess I'm getting softer in my old age. Anyhoo, this is what writer Todd Farmer had to say at Dread Central recently "Don’t worry, Clive Barker fans; Farmer says this new film isn’t planning to be a remake of Barker’s original movie. “We didn’t get on board for Hellraiser to remake Clive’s movie,” explained Farmer. “That movie is so unique and tells such a personal story so we don’t really see the need to remake it. Our plans are to take the mythology and set it in a modernized world that makes sense in context with the original. It’s not a remake and it’s not a reboot - it’s something else entirely. But we are definitely planning for our Hellraiser to be very R-rated so fans shouldn’t be worried there.” "

That sounds rather reasonable. It's either going to be a decent movie or that guy is a good bullshitter.
