Congratulations to Johan Santana for throwing the very first no-hitter for the New York Mets in franchise history. About time, and well-deserved. That was the most fun I've had watching a ballgame in years. I was watching basketball and then my dad called and told me to make sure I was watching the Mets game. He sure was right about that. I tuned in around the 6th inning and it was pretty damn awesome. Wish I still lived in Jersey and had my season tickets.

Well, I'm just glad that, for once, all of our teams are doing good. CT, you've got the Reds as good as I've seen them in the past couple years, HNT has a team that really caught me off-guard with the Mets playing above my expectations (who I admittedly thought would fight with the Phills for the basement of the division) but to see them at the top of the league and actually playing and fighting till the last out is a nice sight to see. Plus, you've got my Dodgers as the best team in baseball (at least Win-Loss wise) who are really looking like a top-class team, sweeping the once-mighty Phillies for the first time in a 4-game series in Philadelphia since 1945 or somewhere around there, I know it's in the mid-40s but I don't remember the exact year. To see the three of us with good teams this year is a nice sight so none of us can really moan and complain all season long in the thread. I haven't checked yet, but are any of us in Minnesota?

I caught from about that time as well, MLB Network was cutting into it when he was pitching and as I had the show taped, I saw it the next morning but that was pretty awesome to see. To think he did it in New York as well must've been a fun sight.

Aroldis Chapman gave up his first earned run last night... He has a sky-high .30 ERA now!

Didn't know about that no-hitter. After a look at the MLB standings, I knew LA was in first place but had no idea they were 17 games over .500. That's pretty impressive. Mets are on a 3 game losing streak but I'm sure they'll bounce back. Reds have been slipping lately. We're now tied with the Pirates. Yes, the Pirates. I wonder what HNT thinks about Bill Maher buying into The Mets.

The Dodgers are shocking me. The best change about that franchise is getting decent ownership in place. Los Angeles is big and really cool city (was just there in April) that is just screaming out to be a significant sports town but for whatever reason it just doesn't happen (no football team at all, Lakers really the only club that gets national attention) and I think it is finally coming their way with a quality Dodgers team. The thing that amuses me is that at the start of the season people were completely dismissing the Dodgers and expecting something out of the Angels this year. I am glad on both counts that the Dodgers look good (as to some degree I still like them and consider them and the Giants to be one of the NY clubs) and that the Angels, who I just despise for some reason, don't. Though Pujols is starting to hit a bit better than he initially was.
As for Bill Maher, I honestly can't say that I care that much about him owning the Mets. I'm glad to see that somebody is buying minority shares of the team, becuase it makes it somewhat less likely that the Wilpons will try to move them or that the league will make good on its threat of contracting them out. I'm mostly just a little surprised that Maher has 20 million dollars to spend.

Yeah, I hear more about the Dodger Dog than the Dodgers themselves lol. Maybe that will change.

Yeah, just wait until the trade deadline. We'll steal somebody and get to the World Series and sweep out the Rangers to make them the first team to loose it three straight seasons.
Of course, that's the fan in me who wants that, whereas the realist isn't seeing that as happening. I figured they'd play .500, maybe .550 and finish second in a weak division (I still think everyone is overrated the West, everyone on TV seems to think they'll come back to Earth and get caught) but still miss the play-offs due to the NL East, which is far more intriguing to me this year than I figured. That's the way I originally saw this year playing out, so to be this surprised that they're the best team (standings wise) is a welcome and most rewarding surprise. It means more Vin throughout the week, and that's always a welcome listening experience.

Reds will probably make the playoffs and get swept immediately like last year.

Or more likely, they'll be the fifth seed in the league, get into the one-game play-off and loose that. I can see that happening far more likely.

Ha, that happened to us in '99. Lost to HNT's Mets in a one game playoff.

Congrats to the Giant's Matt Cain on his perfect game. I could do that but I don't wanna.

Just a run of the mill complete game shutout (which is still nothing to sneeze at)
