No Brandon Phillips Johnny Cueto too. Seems like a bit of a vendetta by Tony LaRussa, which would be a shame if its true. Joey Votto was selected, though, so there is that.

Yeah Cueto got robbed. Apparently Larussa doesn't take kindly to having his players get kicked in the head so hard it ends their career. Pussy.

I haven't been sold on Cueto like most, actually. Most of the games I've seen of him have him going six scoreless innings and then turning it over to the bullpen, so yeah, he's going to be among the league leaders in ERA but beyond that I haven't seen a lot to make me thing he belongs there.
I agree on Phillips over La Hair, I'd make that switch but then there's only 1 first-baseman in the NL with Votto, so I wouldn't know who else can play there and be deserving of going. Plus, with that switch, you have three second basemen (Uggla, Altuvie and Phillips) with only one first baseman, and you can't knock Altuvie out as he's the Astros' lone representative and Uggla gets the nod from the fans to start, which means you drop one in a loaded position for a questionable one in a weaker position. In that manner, I can see the snub but I don't quite agree with it.

So, with the first half now officially in the books:
Your team's recap of the first half. Predictions for the second half. All-Star game thoughts.
Answer any/all of these.

So, with the first half now officially in the books: Your team's recap of the first half. Predictions for the second half. All-Star game thoughts. Answer any/all of these. We had a pretty good first half but petered out there at the end which worries me. Our pitching has been pretty solid but our offense leaves a lot to be desired. My prediction is still that we'll do good enough to make the playoffs. When it comes to the all-star game I'm not too interested. I may watch, I may not.

Kinda odd that the Reds are like that, CT, considering your park. I thought that would be ideal for your hitting and weaken your pitching.
As for my team, we're filled with utility players at the moment due to injuries to many of our starters, so I can't really say what kind of team the Dodgers are because we're not a full-team. Watching them scrap, struggle and claw for just two or three runs doesn't make for an exciting team to watch, unlike earlier when we were the best team in baseball. We had it all in timely hitting, speed up-top, some pop (beyond Kemp, no one's even close to double-digit home-runs at all), outstanding pitching and a solid bullpen.
Second half, I see us getting healthy pretty quickly, maybe by the end of next week when we have everyone healthy or at least most-of-the-way back, and then go on another run to finish out the season 6 games or so ahead of the second-place team. If we can get a bat for left-field and one more late-inning arm for the 7th or 8th, I see that happening very easily.

La Russa is a disgrace and I, for one, am glad this is the last game he will ever coach. I hope people remember his BS when they decide what his legacy is.

Sorry about the way that ended, CT, pretty lousy way to have such a great feat come to an end like that, but you're still in first place. I guess that counts.
I can't complain either, as it seems we came out of the trade deadline with some fine pieces. I smell a great race for the final two months now.

We have a series coming up with the Pirates that should be pretty interesting.

We took 2 of the 3, not bad. Votto will be back in the lineup soon.
