I really expected The Devil's Rejects to be a great movie.
It was not. In fact, until that ending where the sheriff was torturing them and then, the big car shoot-out...it was a movie so bad it made House of 1,000 Corpses look like a masterpiece.
How can people like a movie like this? It ripped off Last House on the Left ("hit her!") and Bride of Chucky / Final Destination (the truck/maid sequence). And the entire dialogue was made up of a bunch of stupid characters making completely unfunny jokes about "chicken fuckers" and... I'm serious: if I wanted an unsophisticated Frat-House comedy, I would watch South Park or the American Pie movies. If I want a western, I'll watch Clint Eastwood or John Wayne. If I want to watch a great exploitation movie about violence- I'll watch The Last House on the Left.
Except for that ending, there was nothing good about this movie at all.

Although I like the film more than you seem to, my appreciation of it has faded quite a bit. After watching Zombie's Halloween remake cum abortion I came back to this one and it all looked much more derivative than it did in the first go around. I think that I just gave it more credit tahn it deserved due to my love of exploitation cinema. This really was not a terribly great example of the genre. I agree that it stole a lot from both LAst HOuse on the Left and the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Both are infnitely superior to this film.

Ah, great to see more coming around to it's overrated hype. I guess most people who've heard how great a movie like this is expect it to be very good. I did. I mean, a "two thumbs up" from Ebert & Roeper often means something. In this case, it means they're freakin' idiots. I get that a lot of people like this because it reminds them of the old exploitation movies. But, were they all as bad as this movie?? I watched it very closely. I think I was more than fair. Basically, all it was was 70's music, pointless chatty dialogue, a lot of cursing, and a lot of farty cult movie & TV icons acting like idiots. Before that ending, what's one thing this movie has going for it? One thing, that is, that it didn't rip off from the movies I already mentioned - or Bonnie and Clyde? Or The Wild Bunch?
