This one is a guilty pleasure for me. I loved it when I saw it at the cinema and forgave its shortcomings but having viewed it a few times since it gets increasingly cheesy and as it is massively derivative I can only give it a very entertaining 3. Paul W Anderson's best film by a mile (although I have to confess to having a soft spot for Mortal Kombat too).

Have it in my collection but have never seen it, and a little fearful that I've taped over it. Will have to check it to see.

I had a reason for putting this thread up.....I saw this movie at the theater when it was first released and I just don't remember anything about it. I can't remember if I liked it or not. I don't know if I hated it so much I blocked it out.... Or if I just watch way too many movies. Anyway, its gets discussed quite a bit at another forum I visit, and it seems like a few people really like it, and others really hate it. Oh and I like Mortal Kombat as well. The couple of other films I have seen by the guy I'm not really crazy about.

He's an appalling hack. His films are never terrible, just stultifyingly average but these two were dragged up higher up the quality scale by other talented individuals. On Event Horizon he had a great cinematographer, SFX crew and production designer and on Mortal Kombat a great fight choreographer, score and Christopher Lambert . In many ways Paul W Anderson is a latter day Albert Pyun but for some reason, much like Uwe Boll, people kept giving him budgets. Now (like Boll) he has enough clout to produce his own output aimed directly at that mediocre section of the market that will usually make back enough money to keep him in the game.

I thought Event Horizon was okay.
If an alien life-form came to Earth tomorrow and wanted to know about Sci-Fi films would we give them Event Horizon? f*ck no, but it can be an entertaining film if you check your brain at the door.

I liked the movie a lot. I kind of thought of it as Aliens meets The Shining. I dont want to answer for speedy, but until she gets her PC back, I can say that she told me she liked it as well, it might be worth a rental for you Jen.

Hmmm, I must have confused Paul W Anderson and Paul Thomas Anderson, lol. I jut got back from There Will be Blood last weekend and went on IMDB to see more about his other movies. I knew about all of them I thought, but wasn't sure if I had missed one or two along the way. Anyway, I enterred Paul W Anderson by mistake and got this dude. Needless to say, I was in shock for a moment that the same man who directed Mortal Kombat was also responsible for MAgnolia nd Punch Drunk Love. I am a super douche

CK: added it to the Netflix queue this morning and will move it up then.

Toad is quite fond of this film if for noting else than its wonderful atmospherics and some fairly decent characterisations.
I've seen it twice now and each time I think, that wasn't too bad... then six months later I can't really remember what it was all about again, which I think says something in itself.
3 from me

Watched this a couple of nights ago. I can't believe I remembered so little of this, it was like watching it for the first time except for a couple of scenes. Anyway, its derivative, sure, but also entertaining.
3 from me as well.

It is a fun flick to watch from time to time if nothing is on and you want something dark and creepy. I think Event Horizon is kinda like "Ghost Ship" but in space.

I checked out the Blu-ray the other night.Been quite a few years since last time. It's a flick I really wanna love and rave about but I just quite can't. Fantastic premise, with quality actors like Sam Neill, Sean Pertwee and Kathleen Quinlan. Unfortunatey Paul W.S. Anderson couldn't direct a board meeting, let alone this film. And it's his best one! I really wish that this script had been handed to someone with the calibre of John Carpenter,Robert Wise or even Wes Craven. Anyone who knew how to treat the Event Horizon as the true character it was, and use the camera as such.
Don't get me wrong I still like it a lot but it could have been an absolute classic.
