3 stars on first viewing I don't know if it was just me but it didnt find it quite as intense as part 3. but on the other hand it had me thinking more, much like the first in the series.
and i think Jigsaw is one of the most 3 dimensional villians this genre has ever seen

The more i watch this sequel the better it gets, their are so many little nuances that relate to the previous entries that arent' readily apparent on first or even second viewing.

Matt (Toad's nw neighbour) and I had this discussion just last night, so Toad went and revisited Saw IV this arvo, and it is true. It is one of those flicks that does improve ona second viewing (unlike Saw 2).

Strange that I liked this one AND part III better than the first two films (which I still find ridiculously overrated). I think it may be because the characters are not as annoying in my opinion, and also, I kind of like the complexity of the last two films, though it often ventures into the absurd (like the first film did at the end for me). Sure, too many twists.....but its what I have come to expect from the series, so I am going along it.
A solid horror film, if muddled and often needlessly complicated. I give it a 3.

Zero Stars. Hated it! I am a huge fan of this franchise but they really shouldn't have made a fourth one

A 1, just because the gore saved it from being a 0. Everything else about this one serves it up as a big-fat zero: the continuous going's back to the past three films to try to make sure that whatever BS they pile onto it makes sense, the relationship between the two and how he turned into a killer is just irritated, annoying and not at all scary, the traps are way too spread-out and not at all confined like they used to be (if he's such a masterful serial killer, why he is leaving his handiwork out in the open in order for others to see and follow him? It's almost as if they just decided to throw them in there in order to stay connected to the series since they've all had them so this one should've as well) the lessons are stupid and frankly, it's just not interesting at all. Only the gore, as usual, saves this one.

Saw IV for me is a film where you really start to to get angry at the so called 'victims'. For example, the rapist, the abusive husband and the junkie who causes a miscarriage. It's at about this point that you understand Jigsaw's motives and can almost agree.
