The second false scare is where I drew the line with the barnyard scene. One I can handle, two is pushing it, but this one drags out four of them, without cutting away to something else to break up the tension, and the suspense that the first two wrangle out is undone by the inclusion of the others. Trim it down, and it wouldn't be a problem, but it's the fact that it goes on too long is what gets me with it.

But "to break up the tension"? That's exactly what they want to do with this scene. Make it linger until the point of near madness, then they strike. I think this movie is an almost complete waste of time. The one thing I find redeems it slightly is that barn scene. I think it's the one scene that makes this worth sitting through. But I can stand a lot of torture. For anyone else, I'd say it's a total waste. This is even, by definition, the exact kind of movie that needs blood and gore to get by.

Odd, I like it in spite of that scene, but at the risk of this turning into JTM Part 2, let's leave it at that.

In spite of just that scene? The Rachel scene didn't bother you?

Not really. It may have upon initial viewing, but I can't remember it now, so it must not have made an impression. Just that barn scene which really got to me.

Well, I'm only saying that I remember the scene leaving an impression on me. That's different than actually watching the scene in the movie. It's entirely plausible that I might watch the movie again in a couple years or whatever and see that you were right about that scene.
I just don't have any real plans to re-watch the movie anytime soon.

It took me a couple years to want to see it again, and that's what happened.

It's easily the weakest of the original offerings, give it a shot sometime. Not saying this should be at the top of your must-see list, but it's got some good things about it.

Another 5. Like I said before... Halloween 4 and 5 are just too great. haha

It's gained some good graces in recent years, but I still think it's the weakest of the original series. Not because of any internal factors, just that the rest of the series is so good.

The only part I don't really like about this one is when it starts going down that road about a cult and stuff which eventually led to the awful Halloween 6.

I think 6 is the best of the series, so I don't really mind that angle at all.

You and your cults.

It's not the cult angle, it's the slasher features. Michael finally decides to have some creativity in what he does besides planting a butcher knife in your chest or stomach, the mask is the best ever in the series and he looks unstoppable coming through all that's done to him in the film, plus you have awesome stalking scenes and a frenetic, non-stop pace that doesn't lag at all. That's what makes me think highly of films, stuff like that. As long as what's going on is explained, I could care less how stupid it is.
