To me, he always was. He was never a favorite of mine simply because he lacks kills. I've always said, "He really needs a film where he can butcher ten to fifteen people in the film. Having one 'Jason' or 'Halloween' film with a bigger kill count than his entire series really lowers his scare value."

I would rather be sodomized by a flaming chainsaw than watch this again

I still think it's fun, though I do need a rewatch sometime soon. It's the one I know the least about.

So here's some fun facts for this...atrocity of a film.
It was intended to be a remake to celebrate the original's 20th anniversary ( kind of like the night of the living dead remake) but was then written to be the actual sequel to the original, then rewritten to be the fourth film.
Kim Henkel ( who co-wrote the original TCM) claimed that he wanted Leatherface to be like Ed Gein with a chainsaw....problem is ED GEIN WAS NOT A YELPING TRANNY!
Neither Matthew Machoghey ( I don't care if his name is misspelled) nor renee Zellwegger acknowledge this film when interviewed, and the interviewers are not allowed to ask about it either. But apparently, Matthew had a blast while filming so i think he has no actual issue with it ( could be his agent)
It was also the only TCM in which NO ONE was killed by a Chainsaw. HOW DO YOU DO THAT!!!
Gunnar Hansen, Bill Johnson and R.A Milahoff were asked to play Leatherface, all three declined.
Was released twice under two different names. The first being " The Return Of The Texas Chain-Saw Massacre" in 1994. Then again briefly in 1996 as " Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation" Both were giant flops and aisde from posters and VHS cover art, there is no difference.
Was initally produced by new Line, but new Line dropped it in early pre-production.
Was the lowest grossing TCM of all time ( along with THE WORST)
Was never advertised when it came out to video due to Zellwegger and Machoghey already having major breakout hits by then. ( as a result the original VHS cover featuring a chainsaw wielding prostitue has become a bit of a rarity among collectors)
Apparently, Leatherface's weird appearance and his sexual confusion in the film was inspired by Buffalo Bill...GREAT IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( not)
It killed the TCM franchise for about as long as Batman and Robin killed the Batman movie franchise.

Except I have to take issue with the statement that Ed Gein was not a yelping tranny. Actually, he was a cross dresser who liked to have sex with corpses and had severe mommy issues. A little yelping probably wouldn't have been too out of character, and certainly would not have been the only thing he did that would make you lose all respect and be repulsed by the dude.

Well that is true, but Ed Gein killed people because of his twisted obsession with his mom, unlike Leatherface.
