So is like every song on every album exactly the same as that one, like you find on most Black Metal albums, where every song sounds the same? They had a little change up there toward the end, some nice grooves, that I can handle.

Well, the thing to remember with Behemoth is that they had a whole career before they became popular (most of the people who I know found out about them came from the song "As Above, So Below" which came from their Zos Kis Cultus album in 2003) however they actually stretch as far back as 1993 or so with their demos, and back then, being inspired more by their peers Mayhem, Immortal and DarkThrone, their early stuff was what was called Raw Black Metal.
Here's one of their early classics, Wolves Guard My Coffin:
They ended up releasing three more albums of similar material (this comes off the debut Sventevith (Storming Near the Baltic)) and along with Grom, Pandemonic Incantations and Satanica were all pretty similar in style and tone, although in Satanica you can start to tell they're adapting more Death into their style.
From Grom, the title track:
From Pandemonic Incantations, Driven by the Five-Winged Star:
From Satanica, Starspawn:
Following a new label signing, they switched over further to a truer Black/Death style on Thelema.6 and on one of their better songs, Christians to the Lions:
Then came Zos Kia Cultus, and the aforementioned song that I know most have discovered them, As Above, So Below:
Finally, we come to where they are now, with Demigod, The Apostasy and Evangelion, all pretty much sounding similar to that style of the first song.
The Apostasy, Prometherion:
And finally, from Evangelion, At the Left Hand ov God:
So there you go, the history of Behemoth in one short lesson.

I don't like black metal and I don't care for the band but what a tragic situation. He's only 33 and as the press release suggests: he is clearly dying.
Life is depressing sometimes.

I somehow manage most days, it's not all that bad. News like this however just really bums me out - even when it is about people I have never and will never meet. Human condition and all, you know

I imagine that is an especially unpleasant place for a woman to get cancer, too

Well, we've got an update on him, and it's really good news: According to a posting on the Polish-language version of BEHEMOTH's official web site, the band's 33-year-old leukemia-stricken guitarist/vocalist, Adam "Nergal" Darski, has found a bone marrow donor that is a genetic match. He will soon undergo radiation to destroy his old bone marrow — where blood is made but which also contains the leukemia cells — and replace it with healthy donor bone marrow, which will then — hopefully — go on to produce healthy blood. If you read Polish, the posting is available HERE.

Glad he's at least got a shot. I never like to read about situations like this that just sound hopeless

Here's another update on him, this time from the man himself:
Adam "Nergal" Darski, the 33-year-old leukemia-stricken guitarist/vocalist of the Polish extreme metal act BEHEMOTH, has released the following statement regarding his treatment:
"I'm still in the hospital, but in quite a good shape so I write to let you know about my health and the further stages of treatment.
"I've been through four planned chemotherapies and have stayed in hospital for over three months now. I've gone through the whole therapy smoothly, though I also had a couple of difficult moments. All this means I have finished the stage of pharmacological treatment and I am about to start the irradiation and then the marrow transplant.
"Yes, we've found a donor! Having searched for months, the foundation has found a person whose genotype is identical to mine. It would have been difficult to achieve if it wasn't for the support of so many people. Most of all, I want to express my admiration for [26-year-old Polish pop singer] Dorota [Rabczewska; a.k.a. Doda] — my wonderful and devoted fiancée. She did everything she could to help me and many other people, regardless of adversities and comments which were often unfair. Your help is invaluable! Thank you! I love you.
"On behalf of me and all other ill people, I thank everyone who registered in the bone marrow bank regardless of origin, skin colour or religion. The concerts for charity have been organized all over the world and people of show business, bands and, most of all, the fans got deeply involved. You are beyond great! One of you made my transplant possible, but remember, your attitude may save many others in need. So I appeal to everyone: don't stop the madness! The march for victory continues! Horns up!"
