I guess the lost boys was a cash in on Fright Night sort of.The early 80's wer quite an aenimic time for Vampires with Slashers, Zombies and werewolves tearing the market to shreds, but along came Fright Night also with a teen bent and a Hip(for then anyway) soundtrack, paving the way for the Lost boys,Near Dark Vamp and Graveyard Shift(bloodsucking cabbies-did they really need to be Vampires?) plus teen comedies like Once Bitten and I Was a Teenage Vampire.

Thats a good point, Matt. I really hadn't thought about it in that context, but I think you're right. Fright night was actually a really cool movie, though. Unlike most of the others that followed IMHO

Yeah, and Fright Night was the only one of those that was even moderately good. The others were either pure fluff or not that spectacular.

Im with Jen on this one I love the Lost Boys, but I was a teen when it came out and was suckered into the style of the film. But I love it know for nostalgia, but I know better than to take it as a serious horror flick, I dont think that was the films intention at all.

But it gets lumped in with it just the same. Every time it plays on cable, the listing shows up as my receiver searches for "horror" and that one comes up everytime. I know it's not the true intent, but that's where it's clumped and that's what many see it as. There's not a whole lot out there that wouldn't know it as "that vampire horror film with the two Corey's" because that's what it was marketed as.

Its got vampires, its got some blood.....so it is considered horror. Simple as that. Everytime I see it pop up, it is listed as a horror comedy (usually comedy/horror). Its not serious, scary horror......its a horror comedy, like the movies Matitou mentioned. I have never heard anyone say hey, did you ever see The Lost Boys, wow, what a scary horror movie. Most people that like it just find it funny and fun. Or cool......not terrifying, not gross, not horrific. I think most people, even people that aren't horror fans, realize that The Lost Boy isn't exactly a hard hitting horror film.

True, Jen, but it's still categorized as such, which I think is where all the other feelings come from.

Yeah, but so are a lot of other movies that maybe shouldn't be. At least this one is labeled as a comedy as well....there are many movies that are not what I personally would call horror, but are considered horror by many.

Right, I know, but the point is not whether it should be or not. It was, and that's what mattered. There's tons that shouldn't be that are, and there's a good amount that really should be but aren't. This one just happened to fall into the first category, of shouldn't but was. I realized it, and know that it shouldn't be.

Let me put it another way, just because you, or I, or anyone else doesn't consider a movie a TRUE horror film, doesn't mean it shouldn't be considered a horror film by anyone. I think its insulting to people's intelligence, or its like saying, "well, that's not a REAL horror movie, you must not be a real horror fan if you consider that horror....." Most movies that contain vampires are horror films. Just like most movies that contain a killer wearing a mask stalking and killing a bunch of teenagers is a horror film. There are many kinds of horror, horror for kids even (the Goosebumps series of books for example) and even if I personally don't consider a movie a horror film, I respect that other people might. I mean it would be one thing if this was a movie about a bunch of normal teenagers that played pranks.....but its not, they are vampires, they fly, they eat people......I can definitely see why some would say it was horror. But I personally, consider it mostly a comedy with horror elements.

I never said it wasn't one, only I saw it because it said it was, and while I did see some elements of it (which you have pointed out for me, as they do fly around and eat people, drink blood, etc.) I just didn't find enough in it to see it as one. I always though that removing that element about them wouldn't affect the movie at all, which was what I was driving at. The fact that they're vampires doesn't have any bearing on the movie's outcome and they could've just been any regular old prank-loving teens would worshipped them. That was my original point, that being vampires doesn't affect how it plays out and could've been something else instead. It still would've been watchable, which I think it is, I just didn't think it was all that good.

The fact they were vampires had a pretty huge effect on the outcome of the movie, as if they were just pranksters maybe people wouldn't have to shove things through their heart to kill them, use holy water, etc. People died, they weren't just fun loving pranksters, or dare devils. And it wasn't like they were able to just call the law in to stop them. The vampirism element WAS the movie. The only other element that could have replaced the vampirism one, would have been another supernatural one. Anyway, getting back to the original point of the thread, which was news about the sequel, for those that are interested, it was looking like Haim may not be in it after all....but I guess that has changed....again....as of now I guess he is still part of the cast. From Bloody-Disgusting Joining Angus Sutherland’s pack of surfing bloodsuckers in Warner Home Video's The Lost Boys: The Tribe will be Kyle Cassie (Devour), Shaun Sipos (The Grudge 2) and Merwin Mondesir (Godsend), according to Moviehole.net. They’ll be the ones keen to turn young siblings in trouble, Tad Hilgenbrink and Autumn Reeser, into creatures of the night. Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander are reprising their roles from the first film – and yes, despite reports that Corey Haim is having some working visa issues, he’s still very much a part of the film.

The Frog Brothers....... .If this sequel was being made without them, there would be no use watching it.

Since Jen isn't around to update, I guess I should: While there’s really no new or important information in it, Moviehole just posted the production announcement from Warner Bros. for Lost Boys 2: The Tribe, which is currently rolling in Vancouver under the watchful eye of From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman’s Daughter director PJ Pesce.
In it are some basic character descriptions and a plot outline, but what the kids really care about are the Frog Brothers, right? Sure. The release confirms it; Feldman and Jamison Newlander will return, but there ain’t going to be any Haim this time out. Sorry, girls. No reason was given in the production announcement, of course, but I’m viewers of “The Two Coreys” will hear about it eventually...
As for plot, here’s the rundown the release gives; This sequel takes us to the shady surf city of Luna Bay, California, where vampires quickly dispatch anyone who crosses their path. Into this dark world arrive Chris Emerson (Hilgenbrink) and his younger sister, Nicole (Reeser). Having just lost their parents in a car accident, the siblings move in with their eccentric Aunt Jillian and become new prey for the locals’ way of life. When Nicole unwittingly falls for a local vampire, Chris must locate and destroy the gang’s lifeline before his sister’s transformation is complete; to do this Chris finds himself relying on the expertise of none other than Edgar Frog (Feldman). Subtle references to characters from the original film, and cameos from returning actors offer homage to the Lost Boys legend and set a sinister tone of impending doom.dreadcentral.com/index.php?name=News&file=article&sid=2999
