Surprisingly this hasn't been too bad at all. I was a bit worried at first with the subplots of the town,as the show is at its strongest when focusing on the family. I think what makes it work the most is the terrific performances by the two leads. Norman has already evoked the right amount of sympathy, and at times I really hate Mother.
Been renewed for a 2nd season, which is good news.
Certainly a golden time for genre TV at the moment. The Walking Dead, The Following,Grimm, Bates Motel and now Hannibal have all got me hooked.

I didn't think this was bad exactly but it didn't do anything for me. So I gave up, too much I really want to watch at the moment. But I agree it's a good time for genre television. I didn't care for Grimm but seriously thinking of giving it another go. The Following and The Walking Dead (though I need to catch up) are awesome. Hearing really good things about Hannibal, and I have it recorded, probably going to catch up with that this weekend sometime. Also really enjoyed the hell out of the Netflix original Hemlock Grove, wouldn't really recommend it to everyone here, but Ron and I loved it and watched all 13 episodes in 2 days.

I love the Bates Motel series and happy its getting renewed for another season. I think this series will make me appreciate the Psycho movies more since I've never been a huge fan of them.
