Nah i've never really been a fan to me he is just a rip-off of my idol Alice, but forgot the character aspect that Alice has always used, and i think let the success he had go to his head. I did enjoy his cover of tainted love though.

I don't give a damn about him one way or another. I like the music his band makes, but he, as a personality, just sucks hard and I can't get into the band because of him. Release instrumental albums and I might pick them up, otherwise there's better groups I have in my collection that I'll waste my time with.

Well, I think that Antichrist Superstar was a good record all the way through. After that, he has been pretty hit or miss with a few quality tracks per album but nothing consistently brilliant. One of the things that I like about him, though, is his willingness to reinvent himself and try new things on every record. He doesn't have a signature sound, because he has dabbled in half a dozen different genres (with varying success). In any case, I saw him last summer in a double bill with Slayer. Needless to say, Slayer is always phenomenal, but Manson held his own surprisingly well, and proved that he is a first rate showman if nothing else.

Yeah, that's the thing about Manson. I think that he really does have some interesting ideas, but they always come off as so disingenuous. I mean to say, when you listen to something like the early Smiths or even solo Morrissey - something about the music, even though it is self-indulgent - seems to contain emotion that can't be faked.
That digression was to help prove my point that Manson panders to the thirteen-year old demographic and dumbs down his music, and fabricates his style to sell more records.
If there is one thing I cannot stand, one thing that makes me vomit, it's fake people. People who craft an image. To me, that is unforgivable.
How does that famous Nirvana song go? Oh yeah, "come as you are."

Exactly right, 7. He seems like such a prick, mainly changing around just to keep his name out there by saying that he changed this or that to make the change appear to be something that can be justified. In all his interviews he seems like he's just trying to throw words together to get the point across without saying anything.

I haven't been following his music much, since Holywood. Then, I heard his 2007 single, the first one. And it stinks.
There are several good things that can be said about him, though. One is that he is in many ways a master of the Music Video medium of art. Whether you think he is repulsive, or he makes a statement, or he is darkly glamorous - his videos are usually, in a word- superb. Especially those for "Sweet Dreams," "Long Hard Road Out of Hell," "The Dope Show," "The Nobodies," and "Dope Hat."
Another thing is that he is incredibly intelligent. He doesn't always use his brains in his art (as evidenced by the decline in potence in his Golden Age of Grotesque / Lest We Forget era videos) - but he's got 'em. What he said in Bowling for Columbine was not just true. It was brilliant.
I agree with HNT about his albums. I was a huge fan of his as a teenager and thought his first three albums (counting Mechanical Animals, not Smells Like Children) were masterpieces. But I can tell many of those songs aren't perfect. They just don't hurt the albums' flow much. There is still a lot of power to his music. Whether or not he is in pain, I know a great deal of people who his music meant something to.
And even if he was mostly image, that band could play. There's no doubt about that. And I still think he's a strong vocalist. With a distinctive voice, if nothing else.

I do like the music his band makes. I've always thought that they should make an instrumental album that I would get it, but as a vocalist, he just irritates me to no end. Considering what I usually listen to, that's a strong accomplishment.

That is an interesting poit, GL. Thing is, he doesn't have a consistent band anymore and hasn't since Antichrist Superstar. He works with a different set of musicians every album and contributes heavily to the various instrumentsl arrangements. He is like a FAR LESS TALENTED Trent REznor in that regard, but I don't hate him

I didn't know that he changed band members after Antichrist Superstar. Although, it's very possible that some of the band might have wanted to leave during the making of Mechanical Animals.
Some people think the songs are more important than anything, and the band still managed to crank out some damn good ones. As for what's going on right now... I don't know. Most of his fans aren't into the new 2007 music.

I have always liked Mason. Some of his covers are shit, and most of his new music sucks too, but overall I still like him. Out of his 7+ cd's at least 5 or more songs on each of them I like, so I can't say to many bad things about him.

I love Manson. He's not the best singer in the world but his music is fantastic and he's one of the greatest song writers ever. And plus, his music saved my life when i went through deep depression.
