Rumors of The Hobbit Movie Abound September 13, 2006 Submitted By Jonathan
Ian Holm as Bilbo Baggins, "The Hobbit"The Hobbit? On screen?
Seems that some the rumours circling about the 'net and the news might have a bit of validity. MGM has announced--or at least Variety is reporting that MGM has announced--that they intend on making The Hobbit in "one or two installments". It seems they'll likely be teaming with New Line Cinema, and making every attempt possible to get Peter Jackson to direct it.
Why haven't we heard more about The Hobbit in the last 2 years? There was an issue between MGM and New Line regarding the rights to filming The Hobbit... hopefully, that issue has been fully cleared up, and we can anticipate an all new Tolkien film in the next few years!

I hope this gets made. I really hope they can work out a deal with New Line & Peter Jackson. I have heard for the past few years that Peter Jackson quit work on King Kong to make the Lord of The Rings Movies and wanted to go back and make King Kong before he made The Hobbit. I think its a good bet that he will want to make the movie too. New Line sould want to make it cause they will cash in, and I think MGM really needs to cash in on something.

Yeah, I've read that Peter Jackson has said he wants to make the Hobbit if it ever materializes.

Has anyone read "The Hobbit"? If so, fill me in on the story. I know it's Bilbo's adventures or whatever, but what cool things could we expect to see translated to film, etc.

Oh CT shame on you. The Hobbit is a wonderful, wonderful book, that would lose too much in two paragraphs of synopsis. Buy it or borrow it immediately.

Well CT I hope this helps. Gandalf comes and gets Bilbo to help a group of Dwarves recame their treasure from a dragon named Smog. On the way they are just about killed and then safed by Gandalf. In The Lord of the Rings The Fellowship of the Ring (I think) Sam says look Frodo its Bilbo's trolls. Bilbo meets up with Gollum and finds the one ring, after tricking Gollum Bilbo gets away from him. Bilbo now has the one ring thats why Gollum hates the Hobbits. Bilbo fights spiders and some other stuff along the way. Near the end after Bilbo helps the Dwarves they are a huge fucking battle between 5 armies.

It is actually the precursor, in which Bilbo gets the Ring, and we meet Gollum

If Jackson does get to make this movie, I hope that he can get as many people for The Lord of the Rings to come back and play their characters here. Bilbo, Gandalf & Gollum are the only ones, but like in the other movies, he chould work in a few new scenes near the end or anything and have Frodo and maybe even Sam.
