Yeah, but I put it second since not everyone here has a region-free player like you people in Oz. You guys import ours, so rarely do we have to import others. It is the prefered one, but you need to keep that little issue in mind.

I'd have purchased the Sphere set long ago (it certainly is enticing) except that I don't have a region free DVD player. They are very hard to come by in the states, and pretty much require that you purchase them on-line. They are also prohibitively expensive. My DVD player as a pretty nice model was not cheap, but I haven't seen a region free player offered for less than $800 in the states. That is too much for me to spend on-line with no guarantees as to the quality of the product that I am getting, and the after-market modifications are just too risky for me to justify them

Yeah, I think finding a copy on VHS is my only real option here.

That's outrageous! The weird thing here is the really cheap (sub A$100) DVD plyers are usually region free by default (I guess they're just made that way in China or Taiwan or wherever). Even the quality mid-range region free is easy to obtain - I earlier this year picked up a new Piooner 5.1 surround sound system for $A500 (with region free player). And depending on the brand you've got they are pretty easy to hack - especially LG models.

I think that the major difference is that REgion 4 consumers are all likely to want DVD's that are not produced in Region 4 format. In Region 1 your average Joe Schmo consumer is probably satisfied that all of the mainstream films that he would want are available Region 1. Those of us who want specific items that are not readily available are definitely in the minority, and are not catered to by market forces.

I was really shocked reading this thread but after a little research it transpires there is no problem whatsoever in going multiregion in the US and it doesn't cost $800. The after market mod is usually as simple as keying in four numbers on the handset and carries no risk. I'm on my fifth DVD player and they've all unlocked that way. The only one I've come across that didn't was a Sony my other half had when I met her. Most players are hackable, just google your model with 'hack' after it. Or buy this from amazon for $47.95 and then apply this hack. And if that player isn't to your taste every other phillips player on the amazon page list I looked at has it's own hack. Bingo.

I gave it a 3.
I like it a lot. It's definitely one of my top 25 favorite horror movies. But it does have some real problems.
The music is amazing, it's very stylish, it's well photographed and designed. But it is also very boring in places. And that's all on account of the characters not being very interesting, and the acting is quite lacking.

Any film involving zombie dwarfs and brain drilling spheres can only be complimented byReggie Bannister's acting. And he was a sweet guitar player too.

The Toad will probably give me warts for this, but I have seen the original years ago and never gave it a serious look. But I promise his holy wartness that I will put it at the top of my to do list!

A brand new addition just came out through Anchor Bay last year, man. Lots of enticig extras, great look and sound and a step-up from previous editions cover artwork and it's not too expensive anyway. Give it a shot.

I believe all of those were from the U.K. DVD of the movie. The sphere boxset... And, HNT - what the fuck? I thought you were on my side?

I don't choose sides. I call things as I see them. I do agree with many of your assessments of horror films, but also think that you owe some folks around here an apology for your antics. Being right (even if I am to grant you that much) is not a defense against allegations that you acted like a hostile and arrogant prick.
