NICE post HNT!
I agree that's what makes these films great. I have talked with so many people that are under the mistaken belief that horror isn't serious film making. Sure horror can often be mindless entertainment just like many other types of films, but it can also be important and actually have something to say. And these films are the best example of that.

<--me Well, seems like I'm taking a beating for my not caring about the political context in the films. It's something that I take big grief over, but I can't simply rewatch them as easy as other zombie films in my collection. But like I keep saying, I don't hate the films. I actually love them and I still think the Dawn Ultimate Edition one the best DVD I own, so I still have a large amount of respect for the film, I just don't care for the political subtext.

lol, nah you're not taking a beating man. I jsut happen to dissagree. If you wanna see taking a beating, go poke your head in one of the political threads and take a look at what Kevin and LDC do to each other, lol

Oh, well since I never go in there, I wouldn't know what a beating really is. But if you say so, I won't worry too much about it. I trust your judgment.

No GL, no-one's having a go at you. Personal taste is just that, personal. There are alleged 'classics' in all genres which I can't abide, or find simply mediocre.

Yeah, I know. Just weird for once to have someone not agree with what I had to say. Seemed like a beating to me (I know you feel the same way, when you finally find someone who doesn't agree after what seems like ages you've been there and finding everyone agreeing) That's what I meant when I said that I didn't know what a beating really was. But no harm done now.

LOL....poor GL....I actually see your side of it.....because sometimes I just want to watch something to escape from the real world and I don't want anything more than that. But I just feel there is a place for both. It just depends on your tastes, or what you are the mood for, or both. So no one is really attacking your stance, just taking another one. I actually love this discussion, I missed this board! lol

We did too, and I do understand their arguments, and respect the film so much because of it. I actually do, and I find it to be the only thing really wrong with the film. I, just more often than not, prefer the mindless entertainment of the genre rather than the deep-thinking kinds. But like I said, it's still a great film.

Therefore we all agree. Basically. Have you seen The Crazies GL?

Yeah, mostly (cut-up cable TV version of the film a couple years ago) and it seems like one I'll like more when I see the uncut version. But usual story: whenever I go shopping for it, something else catches my eye and I get it instead of looking for Crazies, then when I go out for a certain film, I find the Crazies and pick it up, but always put it back. I thought it was ok, but the memory of it is a little fuzzy, what with all the films I've seen in the time since, so one day it will get a full viewing.

THe Crazies is really good, man. I woul definitely recommend picking it up. Romero's commentary track on it is great. THat is one thing you can always count on with him. Even if the movie is only so-so (like Bruiser) Romero always provides a stellar commentary track on his DVD's

I have an old ex-rental of the Crazies on VHS and need to pick up the BU DVD badly.
