Thought this was pretty entertaining news: It's been a long time coming. It's something I expected to happen a long time ago, but Capcom's zombie epic has finally caught the attention of the MKR group (those that own the copyright to Romero's Dead films) and New Line Cinema and they appear to be very close to taking legal action.
Dead Rising was and is a wet dream for fans of the zombie genre as it gives horror fans something they've wanted in a game since gaming existed. The chance to live out that fantasy of being in a mall during a zombie outbreak. There's no question that Dawn of the Dead is the inspiration behind the title, but its also fair to say that the similarities pretty much end with zombies in a mall.
So the question is, is the concept of Dead Rising close enough to the concept of Dawn of the Dead for MKR and New Line Cinema to have a case against Capcom? Capcom placed a disclaimer on every copy of Dead Rising to state that it had nothing to do with Dawn, but whether that will help them or be seen as some kind of admission is yet to be seen.
Capcom has filed an action to get a court ruling to state that "humans battling zombies in a shopping mall" is an unprotectable idea, and that other similarities are trivial or random. You can read the court document over on the Hollywood Reporter who broke the story. We'll see if this prevents MKR and New Line from taking action.www.dreadcentral.com/node/26138Your thoughts on this?

It is an interesting question, and if it winds up going for the New Line crowd that would actually benefit videogames in the long run, as it would indicate a significant change in the way that courts view videogames as intellectual property

The game was released a while ago for XBOX 360, and I am pretty sure that there is a PS3 version as well. this game has been out for a while. It was one of the first titles released for the 360

I really need to become a video game junkie and play this, but I'm just too busy with all the films out there I haven't seen yet. Don't know if I have the time to do so.

That is what I hate about different platforms, I cant justify buying an X-Box for one damn game. Guess I'll miss this one.

My brother just got a 360, and its got some fucking sweet games out for it. I have yet to play Dead Rising, but have known about it for along time. When I first heard about the game it was said that it was somehow part of the Resident Evil series, but I don't know it thats true. If they are going to take action against them for makeing a horror game with zombies in a mall, then they may a well sue everyone else that has ever made a zombie movie, video game, action figure and so on because thats bullshit. If hollywood wants to sue people over stuff like that then they need to sue them assholes over at Aslyum for all the ripoffs they make.

It might be related to RE Conan, both games are made by Capcom.

There's no connection. It's just a video game where you play a person trapped in a mall during a zombie outbreak.

GL is correct. There is no connection between the two. The game is a straight actioner, and as you all know, REsident Evil has some puzzle and RPG elements to it. Not to mention, as of RE 4 they moved away from zombies and explored a totally different and equally sweet horror angle (which I won't spoil for any of you who haven't played it but might choose to do so). It is one of the best video games I've ever played, though.
As for the purchase of a 360, CK, it is worth it compared to the other next gen systems because it really does have substantially more sweet games aailable. It is way more interesting than PS3 just because it has better titles. As for Wii, that has plenty to recommend it too if you have young kids or are just generally into the new control scheme or are a Nintendo fanboy (nothing wrong with that. I consider myself one).
The same thing holds true for all of the next gen systems, tho. Until you have invested in an HDTV on which to play your games, you are not going to notice a substantial enough difference from the last gen graphics to make the upgrade worthwhile. When you make the switch to HD and get your LCD or plasma screen, that is the time to buy your 360 or PS3
