We watched it last night. I enjoyed it quite a bit. Pinhead has a couple of inspired bits of dialogue. The nightclub scene is excellent. It does have more than its share of silliness, I have to admit I laughed a lot during this one near the end. Overall, I had lots of fun, but no, it isn't great and doesn't really compare to the first one. But it is ALMOST, not quite, but almost as good as the second one, in my opinion. I will give it a three.

Glad you liked it, Jen. And nice that you pointed out his great lines of dialouge. My all-time line comes from this one:
Don't debate with me, girl! Just come here and die while you still have the option of doing it quickly!
Sheer genius.

That might be my favorite from this one as well. And when the guy, J.P (?) yells out "Jesus Christ"........"Not quite.".... I like that.....

Another solid choice. See what happens when they give him time in the films? He comes through spectacularly.

I agree, he does. A great, unique horror villian, still my favorite.

I gave it a 3 and think it's a very good sequel. Especially worth noting - I think the story was very different (about the girl who needed a place to stay and becomes a bigger part of the plot) for this kind of movie. I didn't care about the violence or gore one way or the other.
It was dragged down a bit by the performance of the club owner being a major character and the two dueling characters played by Doug Bradley. But it was very well-shot, well-scored, slick / stylish, suspenseful, exciting, violent enough, creepy, and the scene in the church was great as was the street chase.
But overall, I was very surprised by how good it was.

I give it a 4, not because its bad, but becuase its not as good as the first 2 installment, I actually like it a lot, especially the background stuff about Eliot Spencer, in terms of overall blasphemy, I give it a 5 Thats what I like the most about the series, (except everything after 4), not only the unashamed gore, but for its total lack of heavenly intervention, a world that is full of slaughter and lack of hope, which is basically the reality we live in.

Not as good as the first too but still a decent horror movie. I really like the whole Pinhead pillar of hell thing, I really need to watch it again I haven't seen it in a couple years if I remember right.

I love Pinhead's 'I am the Way' moment and Elliot/Pinhead's backstory, but the gimmicky cenobites were just ... lame.
This marks the turning point in the series, gone were the unmistakenly British sensibilities, only to be replaced with American brashness and endless sequelisation.

Watched it again recently. I must say I'm not really that fond of it these days.My biggest problem with it is they make Pinhead the star, with too much screen time. His impact was much better when he was a supporting character. There are a few good moments, don't get me wrong, but my thoughts in my previous post have intensified even more. I can see why Barker washed his hands of the series after this.

Seeing Pinhead instead of the lame, boring human characters is a lot more interesting to me. Even if he's not doing anything, just get him on-screen and keep the people he's slaughtering as little time as possible.
