Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth (1992) Directed by Anthony Hickox"Hell is about to be unleashed again. After the confrontation in Hellbound, the Cenobite named Pinhead is trapped, along with the puzzle box, amongst the writhing figures and distorted faces etched into the surface of an intricately carved pillar - The Pillar of Souls. The pillar is bought by the rich and spoiled J.P. Monroe (Kevin Bernhardt), owner of a famous club called The Boiler Room. An ambitious young television reporter, Joey Summerskill (Terry Farrell), slowly begins to learn about Pinhead and the mysterious puzzle box." |
Rate this movie one a scale of 0 - 5 stars. (5 being the 'best'!)

Although the pacing is uneven and it gets very silly toards the end, it gets a 3 from Toad partly because of the nightclub scene, which is one of the greatst pieces of crnage ever committed to celluloid.

“Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth” is one of the best entries in the series.
**SPOILERS**
Joey Summerskill, (Terry Farrell) a struggling reporter, finds a great new scoop on a story about a dangerous new nightclub run by the sleazy J.P. Monroe, (Kevin Bernhardt) called The Boiler Room. As she talks to his girlfriend Terri, (Paula Marshall) about the kind of club he runs, it gradually becomes apparent that J.P. is involved in some sort of supernatural dealings. Terri thinks it’s due to a new sculpture he just bought, which unknowingly contains the trapped Pinhead, (Doug Bradley) and Joey decides to investigate it against her wishes. When Pinhead gets released from the statue, Joey has to stop him from unleashing the gates of hell.
The Good News: I really enjoyed this one a lot more than several of the others in the series. The fact that this one goes back to the roots of Pinhead and explores how he came into being was great appreciated and satisfactorily delivered. It was exciting to see the back-story, and by explaining it in more detail than before, we learn a lot more about Pinhead was nice to see. It solves some answers many may have about Pinhead and his past. Also, I feel as though he gets in so many classic lines that it should be watched mainly for the great dialogue he gets to say. Not exactly jokes, but it’‘s the same idea. In this one, we get far more deaths than in any of the other films. There’s a ton of deaths in here, and they all get at least brutal deaths. Besides having a head explode and chains hooked into the body, as is usual in the series, we get a very violent and graphic skin-peeling, a hole punched into a head, and an ice-chard shoved into a person’s mouth, among other great deaths. Most of them come from one of the movie’s highlights: an attack on a crowded night-club. It has to be seen to believed with what goes on in that scene, as bodies drop fast and furious, and most of the deaths are pretty clever while all of them are violent and graphic. The fact that it lasts for so long is another reason why this scene works, as a short, simple scene wouldn’t have done it justice. The last half of the movie is a nicely executed series of action set-pieces, starting with the night-club and carrying on until the end of the movie. Chases, kills, explosions, and more come along at a fast and furious pace, just like the rest of the film. Right off the bat, we get the events that set the rest into motion, and it never stops after that. It’s quite nice to see a film just never let up from the moment go, and this one does it quite nicely. I could say more, but that would be a big spoiler, so just see this one.
The Bad News: Some hardcore fans may not like the fact that Pinhead gets so much screen-time and gets in more lines in here than others, but that could be it’s only fault. I really liked this one.
The Final Verdict: There really isn’t much to not like in this one.. Pinhead gets the screen-time many of the fans wanted, and it culminates in a gory, action-packed film. Recommended to all Hellraiser fans, and those that like a little more action in their films, while still keeping it firmly grounded in horror.
Rated R: Graphic Violence, Graphic Language, Brief Nudity, a sex scene and mild drug use

3 fom me. This is a major improvement over part two as it properly returns the underlying sadomasochistic elements to the story. Ths is where the series should have ended, however, as it i all downhill like a roller coaster drop after this one

Whilst these movies hold certain truths,it doesn't hold the potential of the original 2,as part 4 held more of the begining till end. Hellraiser was never ment to be repeated,on,and on,and on. Im a very big Hellraiser fan,as most of you probably are...........but there is an extent where they have should have been, ney, been ended.

Yup. After the first one. All that Leviathan Lord of the Maze stuff was terrible. I did like the Channard cenobite though. Hellraiser 3 was plain awful.

Plain awful is a bit rich. I concede the series went downhill rapidly after this one, but 3 is still entertaining.

You're in for a real treat, Jen. I'm a huge fan of this one. Lots of action (including a nightclub massacre that has to be seen to be believed) gory enough to be entertaining, and some of the best lines Pinhead has in the entire series. Not as iconic as his in the first two, but good enough, due to his increased screentime.
Just, for the love of The Lamentation Box, don't watch the others. They're guilty pleasures for me, meaning that they're quite bad and not really worth it. Stop here. That's good enough for most people to accept.

LOL...well, we shall see, arrived in the mail today, will probably watch it tonight, or tomorrow night. And GL, the others are on the list, so I will be watching them. But I won't be expecting too much.

And GL, the others are on the list, so I will be watching them. But I won't be expecting too much. Fair enough. If you have to watch one of the other sequels, I really like Hellseeker, Part 6. Not a whole lot of Pinhead, but it's the closest I'm going to come to watching a psychological one. I'm just a sucker for the kind of gags that one trots out. It's not even on a level of Part 3 fun, but if I had to chose a sequel out of the others, it would be that one. Just do yourself a favor and forget that Inferno even exists.

My feelings exactly! What an abortion of a film - up there with Exorcist 2 and TCM Next Generation (sorry GL ) in terms of all time crapola sequels.
