I really don't know what the next entry will be, but here's some information given about a possible one:
Actor Robert Englund sat down with MTV recently to talk up his current and upcoming projects, and as he often does, he speculates on the possibility of a return to his career-defining Freddy Krueger role. Having last donned the fedora for 2003’s FREDDY VS. JASON, Englund says of the long-rumored round two of the monster mashup, “I’ve heard [the studio] is in talks with John Carpenter, so maybe Freddy and Jason are going to meet up with Michael Myers.”
And as for the status of the much-discussed NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET prequel, Englund says, “I hear they have a really good script being passed around, and there was talk that John McNaughton, director of HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER [who discussed the project here] was attached—which means that maybe they would be making a prequel with me out of the makeup for a while. You’d get to see Freddy Krueger, the early crimes. Freddy Krueger, the early years. I would like to see the prequel. Dye my hair red and play Freddy as the janitor at the school going after kids.”
The actor, who currently appears on the big screen in Scott Glosserman’s postmodern slasher deconstruction BEHIND THE MASK: THE RISE OF LESLIE VERNON (pictured) and can be seen later this year in the genre throwback HATCHET, further muses, “If they did a prequel where Freddy gets caught, they should do it like a LAW & ORDER episode. Whoever plays Freddy's lawyers; those would be really great roles. Something like James Woods on SHARK. The audience is going to know that Freddy goes on to kill another hundred more people. I like the idea of getting some hot, interesting actors to play the Freddy lawyers.”
Englund, who recently completed his second directorial venture, the horror/comedy KILLER PAD, is nonetheless aware that the clock is ticking, given that 23 years have passed since he first portrayed the villain, though he says, “I can still do Freddy in the makeup. All I gotta do is lose five pounds. Nobody moves like me or talks like me.” A new film would have to happen soon, though, he admits. “Sooner or later, somebody else is going to have to play the part.” Follow the link above to read the interview in its entirety.
