Hugely disappointing and an all round stinker. Pretentious, self important to the point of pomposity, terrible characters/acting (particularly the ridiculous English professor) and absolutely no sense of humour. It scrapes a 2 for having some decent zombie death gags.

Been dying to see this one, looks rather good from where I sit, and after a rather good last entry from Romero, I'm looking forward to it.

I've not seen it yet, but I am really dissapointed to see that this one has been so heavily criticized in some circles. Ebert gave it a solid review and so did the NY Times (as if they are the arbiters of horror). In any case, I absolutely worship at the altar of Romero, so I simply have to give it a look and see what it has to offer. I just can't believe it could be that bad considering I was even able to find some redeeming qualities in Land

Hey, I enjoyed Land as well, featuring a lot of zombie action and a ton of gore. That's enough to make me happy with a zombie film, and to make me feel fondly towards one.

Sadly there just ain't enough of it to make it worthwhile, but there is a whole heap of faceless twenty something actors procrastinating in a most tedious fashion about the end of the world and TV culture. Like Moriarty said, "Crap!"

I rate this one a five and put it on par or better than all but Dawn. I thought it was well done, the social commentary was even more pointed and challenging than it had been in the past, and the gore quotient was upped substantially from the dissapointingly low level in Land. Frankly, I think the opening news footage scene is as good as anything that Romero's ever put in a zombie film. The rest has some genuinely scary moments, some quality satire and humo interspersed, and a genuinely intersting new anlge for the Youtube generation. I dunno, I liked it very much. The zombie genre has gotten a little stale in general and appears to have all been done, but this film generates as much originality and excitement as possible with the well worn genre.
Not to mention, the mummy movie scene with a great dig at fast zombie films was worth a hearty chuckle

I went to see this last week with Toad and a few other blokes we know from another forum and after copious amounts of beer consumption proceeded to fall asleep for the whole thing.

I am honeslty stunned that you hated it so much. I thought it was terrific personally? On he one hand, I agree with some of your criticisms of the acting, but then again the original trilogy was not exactly chock full of heart felt method acting performances either.

I haven't watched this yet, I have been avoiding it I think, because I haven't really heard great things (and I have also heard [rec] is much better, a film I really want to see, but still not available ). But since HNT liked it so much, think I will move it up on my Netflix queue. If one of you can love it so much, and one can dislike it so much, it about has to be worth a watch.

I'm with GP. Not good for the reasons GP and Mat stated. Sorry HNT I just didn't see what you saw I guess.

Yeah, I thought this was pretty bad. I hated the characters (kind of wanted to beat the guy with his own camera) and thought it was pretty clumsy really. Very disappointing.
[REC] was FAR better in my opinion.

One of the dozens I saw after this place closed, I'd give it a 1 but that's a disservice to other films I saw which had a 1 score to them. Completely, utter crap in my opinion with hardly anything worthwhile about it.
