I never saw this and just got it on DVD for $3. Tell me how it was so I know whether to watch it soon or put it off until I'm desperate.

I give it a 4. It is a solid comic book film that captures everything that was fun about the old Superman series with Christopher Reeves and succesfully pretends as if the ultra sucky parts 3 and 4 never happened. Kevin Spacey is a good Lex Luthor, maybe not as good as Gene Hackmnan was, but still good. The effects are solid, and the plot is quality. The only real criticism is that Superman can be a little corny sometimes. That isn't the ault of the movie, though. That is just the way that the character is. He has absolutely no darker elements, so it is sometimes hard to get a whole lot going with him

I've never been a huge Superman fan, I admit I like the darker superheroes better. But this was pretty solid, the effects were mostly good, I loved the casting of Kevin Spacey as Luthor. I also thought Brandon Routh was decent in the role, and I think some have been too hard on him for obvious reasons.
That being said, too often I found myself bored, and I think they made a huge mistake casting Kate Bosworth as Lois. I don't think she is a horrible actress or anything (thought she was decent in Wonderland), but way too young for the role. And that irked the hell out of me.
I say a 3.

2.5/5
Eh, it was ok. Superman and Luthor were good. I didn't like the casting of Lois either Jen. Pretty boring movie but Superman is just a boring superhero.
