Three horror legends, Vincent Price, Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee star in a tale of torture and dismemberment. Scream and Scream again (1969) starts off with a jogger running through a park, feeling a sharp pain in his side he falls to the ground. When he awakes he finds himself in an unknown hospital. Everything is fine until he pulls the covers down and finds that one of his legs is missing. Passing out at the sight of it, he wakes up sometime later to find that his other leg has been removed.
Seemingly unconnected to this a series of brutal rapes occur, resulting in the death of several young women, a young blond haired man is responsible for th murders, he is finally caught by the police and is handcuffed to the bumper of a squad care, he escapes by ripping his own hand off. He ultimately eludes the police by jumping into a hugh vat of acid.
Vincent Price is a mad scientist who is in league with a shadowy organization, a kind of government within the government. The object of this secret alliance is the creation of a race of artificial humans, which the scientist refers to as "composites"
Christopher Lee plays British Intelligence Minister Fremont, who is doing battle with this pseudo-Gestapo organization, who have captured a pilot of a downed top secret aircraft.
The connection between the group of scientist, headed by Price's character and that of the secret government is a little convoluted. Price wants to create a world where there is no disease or suffering, but he is being used. Apparently this secret group is a part of the experiments, they have the pilot of the downed plane and are willing to make a trade, all the files about the so-called "Vampire murder" case, in exchange for the pilot.
Peter Cushing is only in the movie for one scene where he is killed by one of his own men, the one who had captured the pilot. While the thread involving Price's character is very interesting, the whole secret society aspect is less so. IMO they should have gotten rid of this aspect of the film.
All in all its a pretty good movie, I mean it does have Price, Cushing and Lee in it, so it could never really be that bad, if your fan of any of thee classic horror actors then Scream and Scream again is a must have.
There is also some good dark humor in th film as well, ironically none of it comes out of Vincent Price's mouth.
4 out of 5 stars for the movie itself.
3 out of 5 stars for a Vincent Price movie
