I love it as well and watch it a couple of times a year. Haven't watched it in a while so I've gotta dig it out this October for sure. Probably soon! Might only do Michael myers movies on Halloween though.

I've actually had a change of heart on Part 5 ever since I saw it on DVD. Most times I tend to lower my thoughts on a film when I see it several times over, but since DVD was the first time I saw it uncut, it definitely made it a lot more fun for me.
And I've always thought Resurrection was a great entry anyway.

H5 and Resurrection are my least favorite of the original series as well BD. My marathon this Halloween will be H1, H2, HIII, H4, H666, H20, and maybe the first 15 minutes of Res that are actually decent but probably won't even bother with that. I like to watch H5 every once in a while for the hell of it but I haven't upgraded it to DVD yet so won't be able to until then, which I won't lose any sleep over. I'll wait til it's like $1 used on amazon.

I love Halloween III, they should have released it as Season of the Witch, if they did I think it would have done tremendously well. It was totally original and for those of you who complain that Michael isn't in it......he is, Tom Atkins is tied to the chair and he is watching Halloween on the TV, and it shows Michael, so he is in Halloween III. 8-)It rocks.

Yeah, I'm not going to count something like that. He needs to be actively involved and interacting with at least one cast member before I'll say he was 'in' the movie. Showing a movie clip on the TV doesn't count here.

Inspired by my facebook countdown of the Silver Shamrock jingle, I chucked this baby on today(apt as it begins on Saturday 23rd) I am now shaking my fist at my local DVD distributor as I have discovered that the R4 disc is slightly trimmed in the gore scenes. Looks like I have to double dip and import.
This disappointment aside, I really love it, right down to it's setting in Santa Mira, which fans of Invasion of the Body Snatchers should get a kick out of.

Just dug out my H3 DVD myself. Honestly, its the only film of the series I'm gonna watch this year. I will watch plenty of other horror, but this is the only Halloween film. The original is better, but I've seen it so many times that I just can't get excited about watching it again. The others I have no use for.

I just need this one on DVD to complete the series, as it's the only one I don't have. I'm not going to watch it, I just need to finish them off.

Not really. I think its a generic slasher film that didn't do anything particularly well. It took what was once one of the scariest movie villians ever, and reduced him to vanilla F13 status. It just wasn'e as cool. I have some of the same problems with Part 2 as well. To be fair, Halloween 4 might be slightly improved over 2, but like NOES, the original was such a great film that all of the sequels seem unnecessary and pale in comparison. F13 is the only series where the sequels serve a purpose, because there many of them really are better than the relatively crappy original

If you're going to go that route, then there's only four or five films out there that aren't generic. You're just pretty much limited to one film in every genre since they all rip-off each other. You're just going to have to stick with one or two films as being the best in regards to which genre and then dismiss the rest since everyone has ripped off everyone else. There's been no new story innovations in the genre since the 80s, everything since has been slightly-altered takes on the same story.

well, yeah, I freely admit that there is something quite absurd about the idea that people all complain about unecessary remakes, but somehow think that 9 or 10 films in these series are worthwhile. Truth is, these series are not particularly worthwhile for the most part either, and horror is one genre where a good original idea will immediately be done to death to the degree that you can almost forget that there was an original idea in the first place.

But the point is, if you're only going to watch the original ideas, why even bother with being involved in the genre to begin with since, as you said, it'll be raped and pillaged to the point that it wasn't even noticeable that there was one to begin with?
And even still, 99% of the time, the rip-off is better than the original, so you have that to contend with since the only reason the original is even brought up is the fact that it came first or the creative minds behind it and on every other level it just doesn't measure up at all.
