I haven't done a Star Trek marathon in a very long time, and after not being able to come up with a new idea for a marathon, I figured it was about time to do one.
The List that boldly goes where no man has gone before:
1. Space Seed (original series episode)
2. Star Trek: The Motion Picture
3. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn
4. Star Trek III: The Search for Spock
5. Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
6. Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
7. Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
8. Mind Meld: Secrets behind a voyage of a Lifetime
Ive always been a major fan of Star Trek (only the original) as well as the movies that were made after the series ended (only with the original cast), my favorite character, as with many people, is of course Mr Spock.
Ive seen the original episodes many many times over, and the films as well, several of the Star Trek movies can also be found in my Gnostic movie collection, and so there are many different levels to the films, and also with the show itself, for there are several episodes from the original series that address certain Gnostic-like concepts. The Squire of Gothos, Errand of Mercy, I Mudd, Who mourns for Adonis, Return of the Archons and The Menagerie (parts 1and2) are but a few examples.
Space Seed is the episode which features Ricardo Montabon playing the character Kahn for the first time. When it came time to come up with a villain that Kirk and the rest of the crew could do battle with, the writer went through every episodes of Star Trek, struck by Montabonds performance he settled on the character of Kahn.
In the episode Kahn is the leader of a group of supermen, who have been engineered to be superior beings, apparently some time in the 20th century there was scientific flirtation with eugenics, of which Kahn and his followers are the result. They were ether put into a space craft by their enemies, or they left the earth by their own will. The Enterprise intercepts their ship and finds these supermen in suspended animation, finally they are awoken after 3 centuries and begin to plot to take over the Enterprise.
So begins the 5th annual Star Trek marathon..........
