The change in direction with each subsequent film makes this series a little funky. The rehashing of the first film at the beginning of 2 with different actors confuses a lot of people and most people I know don't even realize AOD is a sequel. They think it's a stand alone movie. Excellent points. All of those. And I completely agree. AoD as a part of the ED franchise is the victim of such an incredibly different direction. Taking all the horror out and making it a freakshow adventure-comedy type film. Which is fun, but- is it horror? Nah. Also, the rehash at the opening of Evil Dead II is one of the reasons I think the film is seriously overrated. It even feels like they did that just to pad the running time. To make the movie be over 79 minutes. I still think Toad's point holds true, however. It is far better than Halloween 4 on, any Friday the 13th film, and all of the NOES films except the 1st and third IMHO. Army? Or the franchise as a whole? Because, though I'll always consider Raimi a master of horror for The Evil Dead alone, after that, his films are not really horror films. They're usually comic book-style comedies. That's also why, as a franchise, I consider this one so-so at best. Which makes the Friday and Nightmare franchises much stronger in comparison.

I dont think anyone can call Raimi a master of horror for making the ED trilogy. He is very good at it Lazario is 100% right in basically saying Raimi is more a comic book style movie maker. But he is still a god!

What do you think he's a God of / for? I really count the Spiderman films against him because of the CGI. I know it's not exactly fair. But that stuff drives me crazy. There is nothing even 1% realistic about it. It is so fake, it's scary. Not in the good way. Then, he has some baseball movie (right?), The Gift, A Simple Plan, a remake of that western movie with Leonardo DiCaprio ( ) and Sharon Stone, and the Darkman movies. If we just take the Evil Dead movies as a series, I think we'd have to admit those movies are more funny than anything else.

Well I can see from that post that you never bothered to read or look at anything Raimi ever did pre Evil Dead, but thats okay not a lot of people have. But unlike you I happen to like most of the movies you just shit on, but I can can live with that, everyone is entitled to an opinion. But I say that Raimi is godlike because I really happen to like 90% of his films. But let me know when you make your directorial debut, so I can compare.

Pre-Evil Dead. unlike you I happen to like most of the movies you just sh*t on, but I can can live with that, everyone is entitled to an opinion. A Simple Plan is a quality film. I do wish Raimi would do more low key movies for a change. I sat and watched the extended version of Army of Darkness a couple of months ago and much preferred it. It may have slowed the final battle down somewhat (and the visual quality is a little muddier) but it definitely gave the film a bit more heft.

Rewatched it yesterday, still makes me laugh (my god, that windmill sequence is just too good for words) the smart-ass is in full swing and it still stands up as a thoroughly entertaining entry. Not many qualms I can bring against it.

It was just a fun movie to watch, if anyone takes it as a serious film really needs to smoke a joint or something. AoD is just a fantasy fun fest. I love it!!!!!!!

First of all, looking at the plot description should make it clear that it's far from being a serious film, and having Campbell in the film should be another quick sign. If you can't figure it out using those two cliues as hints, then I really have a hard time figuring out what to think of that.

Well GL it is safe to say at least when WE watch flicks like AoD we know that it is fun, and we can release our everyday life for 90 minutes and escape!

The film i a mysoginist disgrace and oyu should be burned at the stake of you like it. In other words, I think it is a hell of a lot of fun, and the ending in the S-MArt is priceless and has to be seen to be believed

Totally agree, man. I love that ending, much better than the original one that was made.

Is this the worst movie in the world? Probably not. Is it so mediocre that it's unwatchable? Absolutley.
Whenever i try to watch this movie, it ends with me destroying my DVD player, the movie and my tv. It's that god-awful. It's even less entertaining than sitting in church listening to some deluded freak praise his non-existant saviour.
LOL i'm exaggerating btw. I don't hate the movie, but i don't particually enjoy like i enjoy the first two movies.
