Yes. The theme of dying for real because of a bad dream is definitely scary as hell. Again, the actual movie is not so scary anymore, but it once was. The ideas behind it get me creeped out if I really start thinking about them, though

I gotta go no on this one, simply because I never cared for the series all that much to begin with (and that goes for pretty much the entire series, not just the original) and never really found the concept of Freddy scary since cracking jokes never makes me fearful of somebody, the concept doesn't really make me frightened since he has no powers in the real world and I've always been incredibly weird in the sense of being unable to remember what I've dreamed about, despite being aware that I do dream something. This was always the weakest film of the original classics and the weakest series to begin with.

At times, I would say yes. Take away the humor and I sure as heck wouldn't want someone like that haunting me in my dreams.
