I have come up with a new feature that I hope is a fun way of spicing things up a bit and encouraging activity.
You can now earn badges by hitting post milestones, getting involved with certain HMaM features such as Movie of the Month, and winning weekly and monthly awards. You may have noticed a few badges in your signature already as some can be awarded retroactively for things you have already achieved!
Here are the 9 badges available so far:
100x Blessed: Pretty self explanitory. When you attain 100 or more blessings from your fellow HMaM members, you will receive this badge. It is a retroactively awarded badge, meaning that if you alreay have 100 blessings, you get it automatically!
250 Posts: You get this for reaching the 250 post milestone. Also retroactive.
1000 Posts: Earn this one by reaching 1000 posts. Retroactive.
5000 Posts: Only a handful of members have reached this huge milestone. Can you make their elite ranks some day? Retroactive.
10,000 Posts: This is an extremely rare badge as only one member has reached this milestone. Become #2 and you can display it proudly as well!
MotM Contributor: This badge is awarded to those who make a selection for movie of the month. Unlike the badges above, it is not awarded retroactively if you have made a MotM selection in the past. It will only be awarded going forward. This is simply to promote future involvement in the Movie of the Month feature and encourage people to volunteer to pick. The good news is it's easy to participate so check out the MotM section for more details!
Quote of the Week: This is a new weekly award. It is awarded for someone who has made a memorable statement in a post that week. You could win it due to wit and humor, a good idea, or purely for being highly informative. If you would like to nominate someone (other than yourself) for quote of the week, feel free to send me a pm with the quote.
Thread of the Month: Win this new monthly award by creating a discussion provoking thread. It will be judged not only by the number of replies but also the quality of discussion. Winners of this badge have done a great service to HMaM by encouraging the participation of others. Send me a pm if you have someone to nominate for this award!
Hall of Fame: This is ultimately, the most prestigious of all the badges. Those inducted into the new HMaM Member Hall of Fame will receive it. It is being awarded immediately to the two godfathers of HMaM Phantom and Jaysif. Soon, a third person will be inducted into the HMaM Hall of Fame and this time it will be an active member. Check the Hall of Fame sub-board for more info!
FUTURE BADGES: There may be more badges added in the future. In fact the idea I have at the moment is occasionally having special limited time badges available. I will start a special themed thread (maybe holiday themed) that will only be open for a limited time. Those who participate (post) in the thread will recieve the special badge. I'll make sure those ones look especially cool. More on that in the future.
P.S. A few badges can be won multiple times, like MotM Conributor, Quote of the Week, and Thread of the Month. Multiple time winners will recieve an x# next to that badge in their signature to signify how many times they have won it.
