"The Fog" 2005 is a remake of John Carpenter's 1980 so-called 'classic'. The new version stars the likes of Tom Welling, Maggie Grace, and Selma Blair.
First of all, let me start by saying that I hated the original "Fog". I hated it so much that I didn't even finish watching it. Now that I got that out of the way, let me say that I skipped seeing the remake in theaters due to all the bad reviews, but I finally checked it out at my local library yesterday for free.
The movie started off so-so with a flashback to the 1800s where a tragic fire breaks out on a ship and people burn to death with four priests rowing away on a boat, unharmed. Then we flash forward to present day with Tom Welling and Maggie Grace, a happy couple, and Selma Blair, a local DJ, on a remote island called Antonia Bay. Soon, they become haunted by ghosts in the fog. In the end, things get out of hand and I found myself laughing and things that were meant to be scary.
Overall, the movie isn't nearly as bad as people have been making it out to be, but it also isn't the best remake ever, that's for sure. I still think it's a lot better than the original and that's what I was hoping. I'm going to watch this again because sometimes when I see a new movie for the first time, I tend to think it's only 'ok' but after more viewings, it grows on me, like "Saw" and the "When A Stranger Calls" remake. So when I see this again, I'll give you another rating, but for now, it gets a 2.5/4
