Beneath Still Waters Rating: TBC
2.5 stars
DEVOTED horror fans will find this a passable time waster, with a couple of reasonably fresh ideas to make up for at times slow pacing, and what is not exactly the genreās most original plot-line. So, 50 years ago a small town is over-run by a Satanic cult that is vanquished when the town disappears beneath the waters of a new dam. Fast forward to today, and people are disappearing beneath said still waters, and the evil that lurks beneath is looking to emerge once again. The underwater scenes could have benefited from a bigger budget, though they work passably well, and there are moments of genuine tension. Gore-hounds will be pleased with the inventively bloody demise of some of the cast, but overall the film spirals towards a fairly formulaic finale. A passable rental proposition for a beer and pizza night.

mmmmm... don't buy it. Try a rental and see what you think. Some people I suspect will love it but it didn't get me raving.

when I get the time I'll do a few more comprehensive reviews... mostly what I post here are the short grab DVD reviews I've filed for the newspaper, where one can hardly start raving about comparisons to Fulci and the finer points of splinters in eyeballs.
