JUDGE DREDD Judge Dredd is a character from the UK comic 2000AD, and made it onto film in 1995, with Sylvester Stallone playing the title role. This is a big budget effort with big name actors including the gorgeous Diane Lane (Judge Hershey), Armand Assante (Rico), and Max von Sydow as Chief Justice Fargo. It's just a shame that with all the names and production values thrown at the film, that the final result was infinitely better. For those unfamiliar with Judge Dredd: By 2139 civilisation is confined to a handfull of Mega-Cities, with only the radioactive and blasted wasteland of the Cursed Earth in between. Law is dispensed by The Judges who act as judge, jury and executioner - the toughest of them all is Judge Dredd. That is until Dredd is framed for a murder he didn't commit while others conspire to take over the city and enforce their own brand of law. OK, that out of the way, Judge Dredd opens up in spectacular fashion - sweeping futuristic cityscapes with all manner of airborne vehicles and towering monoliths of steel and glass giving way to seething humanity on the streets below. Two apartment blocks are at war when Dredd arrives on the scene amid a crescendo of gunfire... ''I am the law''... and proceeds to dispense justice at the end of his Lawgiver (sidearm). The action sequences are beautifully executed, and the film thankfully was not toned down for a PG-13 rating. The plotting in itself is simple but effective (it centres onthe origins of Dredd and his nemesis) and it moves along at rapid clip. Most annoying is the use Fergie character - a petty criminal played by Rob Schneider who becomes Dredd's unwilling sidekick - as comic relief. It turns the film from what could have been a hard boiled sci-fi thriller into something that at times is more befitting a Beverley Hills Cop movie. That aside, it is actually a pretty neat endition of the comic strip with some of the charcters like the Fink Angel clan in the Cursed Earth executed pretty well. Toad's verdict. Cheesy, and riddled with holes, but I can't help loving it. Three stars.

I always liked the character, and had a really good feeling about this movie when it was first coming out. I was let down a bit by the movie overall the first time I watched it, but after viewing it about 20+ times I love it. The acting is so bad its good, and the make-up effects are great. I gave this cheesefest a 5 just for how much fun you can have watching it. You can watch it for just the movie as is. Watch it again just to laugh at it. Then watch it and play a drinking game to it. Take a drink of whatever every time someone says something about Law. If you play this game the first time you watch the movie you will be drunk and have to watch it again. lol

Love the movie and love the Anthrax song about him. Cheesy, funny and action-packed with some great sequences as well. A 4, as it's in the middle of my Stallone ratings, but it's still a fun one.

I didn't like this movie, had no fun at all with it. Actually took me a few tries to make it through it, because my dad was just convinced I would love it; so I tried, oh how I tried..... But just not for me. Strange thing is, I have enjoyed much worse movies. I think it is because I am just not much of a Stallone fan, I have liked a few of the movies he has starred in (love Cop Land) but he either annoys the hell out of me, or he's just....there..... Here, he just annoyed the hell out of me. So unfortunately, I have to give it a 1.

I wonder if we'll ever get a director's cut or something? There is missing footage. I've seen the stills.

Missing footage??? What are the stills of Mr P?
A director's cut special edition would be fantastic - maybe they could package it a cover resembling his Judge's shield.

And I'll second that. You can't have enough Stallone in your life.
