I tried really hard to like this movie but fell asleep watching it on three seperate occasions. As a result when I finally made it to the end it was a relief but probably ruined my enjoyment of it somewhat. I generally dig Asian films and have no problem whatsoever with subtitles so I have no idea why this film in particular kept knocking me out. It's been a couple of years now so (armed as I am with the trilogy) perhaps it's time I revisited it.

I liked this one quite a bit; had seen the remake (one I think is highly overrated) and wasn't really expecting to care for it all that much. But I thought it was pretty spooky, though it dragged a bit in places. I will give it a generous 4.

I watched this movie before the remake, and it made me like the remake a bit more. Don't get me wrong I did think this one is a good movie. I gave it a 4.

I enjoyed all of these films and give this a five. I think they made four foreign movies of this and we only got two. I was disappointed about that. I would like to see another one be made.

5.
I saw the remake first, and thought it was pretty good, but the original version is far superior. Didnt find it slow at all. If only American directors could make their original films this good.
I actually downloaded the entire series, unfortunatly I could not find a decent subtitled version. The best I could find was this Japanease film dubbed into German, subtitled in English.
I need to go back and watch the entire Ring, Grudge series

Finally caught up with this one last night, and I'll go with a 3.5, but I'll round down to a 3 in the voting. While this one had some really good stuff, overall the flaws here take center-stage. The main thing hurting this one is the fact that the main storyline is incredibly flawed and makes little sense. As the ghost wants her body found out, why make a videotape that originates in a back-country community that plays only on a locally-broadcasted channel that's supposed to generate interest in solving her mysterious disappearance, an event that's counter-intuitive to what she really wants. Beyond that, the fact that the film is just so slowly-paced and lacking of ghost action that the middle segment completely eliminates the killing to focus on the investigation into the video tape's images and source, and none of those are crawling with horrific ideas or concepts, leaving this to drag on and crawl to the final twenty minutes. Granted, that's great stuff that happens there, but it comes too little too late to save the rest of the film though it somewhat evens it out to make it borderline watchable.
