What extreme Asian horror have you seen/do you own? And what are some of the better efforts?
You know, the stuff that makes you think ''holy snapping ducks, they have got to be f*cking kidding... I don't belive I just saw that.''
Anyone out there into the Guinea Pig films?
Anyone managed to sit through Red Room without squirming uncomfortably at some point?
Or what do we think even of Takahashi Miike's Imprint?

I am not really one to seek out extreme cinema. I'm kind of a wimp actually, when it comes to these things. Until now, I had never heard of Red Room or the Guinea Pig films, I just looked them up on Netflix.....and YIKES! I will be discussing with Seeker later tonight, to see if he thinks I should avoid, lest I be traumatized for life..... The film I saw that struck me as most extreme is Visitor Q......which I didn't care for; I wasn't offended, but I also didn't really "get" it, I think. It wouldn't say it went too far exactly, I just didn't take anything from it. Which happens. Some would say Suicide Club is extreme, I'm sure, but....at this point, most horror fans have probably seen it, I see it debated a lot. Imprint, I really liked, and understand why Showtime pulled it (though I don't agree). Its intense in places, darkly funny in others (actually kind of reminds me of early Cronenberg on and off) and certainly doesn't shy away from themes and images a lot of filmmakers would avoid. So basically, I guess I am the wrong person to answer......(hell I avoided Last House on the Left for years....and am still avoiding Cannibal Holocaust).

Guinea Pig: Flower of Flesh and Blood is one of the more disturbing films I've ever seen. Not really worth watching, though, IMHO except to earn your gorehound cred for having seen it.
Jen, given that you and I have discussed at length your dislike of Ichi the Killer based on its mysoginistic outlook, I'd have to recommend that you give the whole series a great big pass

Flower Of Flesh and Blood is very overrated I think. I mean it can be disturbing, but it really isn't as bad and realistic as people like to say.
I have been meaning to see Red Room for a while. Hopefully I will soon. One I really heard is fucked up is Ebola Syndrome.
Men Behind The Sun is pretty messed up, but then again it falls into the Flower Of Flesh and Blood category of people saying it is crazier than it really is.

Though I do have every intention of finishing Ichi the Killer one day soon, its been so rare that I have not finished a movie I have started to watch, that I just can't stand it....lol.

Agreed on Red Room. I think in addition to thje sadism what makes it distrubing is the complete amorality of the film when it comes to providing any motive or context - a bit like August Underground in that department. Mind you a few people have recommended Mermaid in Manhole as one of the best in the series, so that's on order for me at the moment. Watched Red Room on the weekend. Now that is a seriously sick and twisted film. www.imdb.com/title/tt0371516/

I expected something totally different but in the end it was one of the funniest films I've seen for a long time. Watch it in a double bill with The Happiness of the Katakuras.

I know my husband has been wanting to see it for awhile now.
