I'd give it a 4. Incredibly entertaining, lots of great gags (just love that triple-effect scene where she, on the ground floor, keeps suspecting people are walking around behind her on each of the three levels, only to turn around at the exact wrong moment to see them) as scenes like that just work incredibly well for me. The ending is great, lots of fun stuff there and plenty of tense chases, and the build-up works well, with the ghost scenes in the library and her flashbacks being quite good. I just had little to no idea what was going on (a common trait in here) and felt the opening was pretty pointless, as they're never seen again and have no bearing on the rest of the plot. Otherwise, quite entertaining.

I thought this was a great film, finally got to watch it last week, I watched about 45 minutes of it several years ago but never finished it. Those Japanese directors really know how to film a movie, it has some of the best ghost scenes ever put into a film, the camera work is so original. The shot where it fades from the model of the building to the actual structure while the camera is moving, is pretty flawless. There were some truly creepy scenes in it and the doll was freaky as hell.
Makes me want to watch more Asian horror films

This is definitely a great starter piece for Asian horror, I agree I love what they do with the camera-work as well. That shot you mentioned was outstanding, though I like the one with the ghosts on each of the three levels behind her constantly turning around at the wrong moment to see them.
If you're interested in more Asian goodness, I highly recommend The Red Shoes and The Ghost of Mae Nak. Both are absolutely fantastic entries I think you'll have some fun with.

I have not heard of those, I read all the posts for Asian horror here, those have not been commented on so far. Tried downloading Tale of two sisters, didnt work, need to try again, I shall look for those as well.

Dude, 90% of the stuff I've put up hasn't been commented on, big deal. It just means people need to stop going out and start watching more TV like I do.
But in all honesty, check those two out. Highly, highly recommended.

Well, they're horror films so I think they deserve to be checked out, but that's just my personal viewing philosophy. It gets me in trouble sometimes, but that's just the way it goes sometimes.

I think this was one of the better 8 films to die for movies that came out. I know it had a twist ending but I can't remember what happened.

Totally agree, in the first set (which was the only ones of the series worth watching if I'm remembering right) this was indeed one of the better ones.
