I saw it on Fearnet a few months ago. I just didn't really like it that much. I found it to be convoluted and boring. THat sid, I am not the world's biggest fan of JApanese ghost story horror films. If you are, then please take my review 2with a grain of salt. I will also admist that there are a handful of creepy scenes and setpieces in this one
Oh yeah, it gets a three (2 1/2 really)

Not great, and nothing I haven't seen before, but I did like it quite a bit until the end, it had some creepy scenes (especially in the hospital near the end and I am particularly fond of the television show centered around one of the victims...yep lets watch and see if can protect this poor girl who is sure to die horribly....it will be GREAT for ratings!), and the acting was fine.
But no, I wasn't crazy about the ending. And it isn't really as interesting as many of Miike's films. A decent effort though, and well worth the watch. I give it a three.

I've been trying to work out the ending to this one with another guy on another forum for about a month now and I'm still not close to understanding it. One of the few times I really wish it'd spell things out more.
I also wasn't a fan of their encounter in the warehouse, completely takes the fear right out of the villain with absolutely no reason why she shouldn't just utterly annihilate them right in front of her. The extremely slow pacing to fill out the running time doesn't do this one any favors either, this one just takes an eternity to get going because it's about 20 minutes longer than it should be, as the investigation into it doesn't take that long to really get out, and really should've been fixed.
Then I see the TV show experience and the sight of the girl being completely twisted and deformed right in front of me and it's mostly forgiven. Mostly, because then the ending happens and pisses me off again.
And then the fact that I consider the remake of this one to be the best of the crop (almost flawless in my opinion) and this one gets shamed back even further.
I'll call it at 2/5.

I never saw this version but I did the remake and I didn't care for it. It was so funny when the guy got stabbed in the eyeball through the peephole though, hehe. I saw that coming a mile away!
