What did everyone think of this one? 4/5 from me. I thought it was overhyped but still pretty good. The US tv spots for this film were awful though. The only scene it really showed was the dance squence from the credits, making it look like a dance romance for 13 year old girls!

I absolutely love the film for two reasons. The number one reason is that in undergrad I studied Indian literature and actually spent a semester studying in India so the culture and the country has always been near and dear to my heart. The film was beautiful, and it was thrilling personally to see so many places that I've been and relive some of those experiences.
As far as the poverty depicted, it is every bit taht desperate in the cities, and there is a whole culture of rural poverty that the film doesn't even have an opportunity to address, but it is quite shocking to the unexpecting western traveller.
The film had a great bollywood flavor, but it also had enough western elements to satisfy American and European audiences.
Not to mention, it was a great date movie, and won me some points for going to see a sweet and up[lifting film rather than the depressing and/or gory fare that we usually see when it is my choice to pick the movie. On that level, I was just happy to get chick flick points without having to deal with Ryan Reynolds, Aaron Eckhardt, Jennifer Aniston, or any of the other lightyweight annoying actors that spell the kiss of death for me.
Oh, and I gave it a 5. Those who don't appreciate the film probably miss the degree to which it deftly melds western adn eastern culture without making any of the film look out of place or tacked on

That's awesome that you stayed in India. Hey you probably knew some of the millionare answers if you studied Indian lit! And if your lady can stomach children getting their eyes scooped out with spoons, I think she can handle mainstream horror!

Yeah I did know a few of the answers. Jamie can stomach horror fine. She just doesn't share my admittedly overzealpus love of it that allows me to enjoy watching movies that we all know are pretty weak of we had to be honest

By the looks of the previews I thought it was supposed to be a dance musical but I still loved it regardless. I give it a five. Bollywood dancing is so fun to watch.
