This is by far my favorite comic book movie of all time. I never really read the Iron Man comics or cared much for the character. I even thought the movie would be bad as so many recent ones in the genre had. But i do like Robert Downey Jr. a lot so I thought I'd give it a chance. Not what I expected at all. I mean yeah the robotic suit and dazzling special effects, but the performances and the anti-war, anti military industrial complex message were the stellar aspects for me. Looking forward to the sequel but I fear there's no way it can live up to this one....? 5/5

Totally agree. Great action film with surprising depth. Downey Jr gets better and better.

I actually expected that I would like this, Robert Downey Jr. is one of my favorite actors so I was really looking forward to seeing it. But even I was surprised by how good this movie is, I loved it. Gets a 5 from me.

My girlfirend loves Robert Downey Jr. so I'm sure that I'll see this one eventually. I like him too (but my opinion of him is based on the fact that he is a good actor and not sexual desire, lol).
As for the film, the reason we haven't seen it yet is because I have had about enough comic book themed films generally. It tends to be simplistic and puerile subject matter that is none too challlenging to think about.

No, no, no put this near the top of your netflix list right now you'll thank me later. You've got it all wrong. It's more about war in the middle east than a superhero. You'll find more social issues here than a barrel of monkeys. It's about weapons manufacturers. See it you'll love it.

One of The groups Ironman is fighting is the Taliban and Afghan Warlords. However the other enemy group he fights which he considers equally destructive and harmful are U.S. weapons manufacturers who's bombs are responsible for countless civilian deaths.
I won't demand you move this to your #1 or top 3 netflix since I'm sure you have many movies you're eagerly awaiting seeing. But knowing your tastes and political views, this one definately deserves to be in your top 5 and in your DVD player within a month. Sorry I'm being so bossy, hehe, but I know you'll love it and it's a win win for you. You can watch it with you're girl who's a RD jr fan as you said. Shell like it as well it's not your typical guy friendly only comic/scifi film. My 30 year old lawyer sister (remind you of anyone lol) who despises scifi and comic book movies loves this movie. In fact she bought it for me and turned me on to it. And I'm sure the reason she enjoyed it is because she has similar political leanings as you and I. That's just a testament to how much this movie is about war, politics, and the mitary industrial complex Ike warned us about half a century ago. Stunning action and effects accompany this, but are just icing on the cake.
HNT, I will seriously eat my DVD of this movie if you don't rate it at least a 4, that's how confident I am you'll dig it.

Saw this one last night (my girlfriend has grown tired of watching Yankees and/or Red Sox games with me, so this was considered a viable alternative) and I ended up really liking it a lot, more so than her who suggested it. Not knowing anything about the comics (hence why this is my first post in this entire section after the Dark Knight post) I ended up getting somewhat lost early on with the guy being held hostage in the desert and his battles with the group out there, as well as the rationale behind the different groups' fighting with him, but in terms of pure action this delivered was a lot of fun, with the main battle at the end being especially impressive and fun, though the numerous amounts of mini-battles beforehand were a lot of fun. The humor was definitely a nice touch and it made me laugh a lot more than expected, though there's a couple jokes that do run thin a bit. Much better than expected and a lot of fun. Probably a 4.5/5, though I just can't get myself to go up to a 5 in the voting, so I'll leave it at 4.

This is probably my favorite comic book movie ever. Might even like it more than The Dark Knight.
