I ordered a tattoo gun and kit online (yes apparently you can do that). To try it out I drew a cross on my ankle and had my roommate tattoo it. My first tattoo. It's actually just the outline, I'm deciding how I want to fill in the cross. Probably a design within the cross and possibly some colors, not sure yet. As you can see in the background, I was watching Halloween 2 while I got it done.

So now you can make your own prison tats. Ths is kind of cool, but take it from me those things last forever. I am not saying this because I think you shouldn't get them. I have a few myself. I will say, though, that there is definitely a lot of value to thinking carefully about what you would want and going to a quality artist that you trust to create it for you. You want to make sure that you won't hate whatever you do when you are 50.
In any case, please at least do some research as to how to maintain sanitized equipment. Some of the infections that people get if you don't change the needle for every application and keep your area sanitized are pretty horriffic. Not unlike what would happen if you went to have surgery done in an unsanitized operating room

I think I'm below prison tats right now lol. But thanks for the concern and yes we did everything by the book safety and sterilization wise. And it is healing nicely with no irritation, infection, or anything else. I'm going to think long and hard about how I want to fill in the cross and what I want my next one to be. Once it's drawn or transferred onto the skin it really is pretty much glorified tracing with a bouncing needle, but it does of course take some practice and skill.
