Looks like it will be that way, at least on my end. My financial situation most likely means that unless I have it in the collection or it shows up coincidentally on TV that month, I won't be watching these as I don't have the money to go out and buy them or keep up on them with Netflix. That's the way I go, at least.

I'm planning to pick it up this weekend. I have every intention of watching it, but I am just a little busy with work at the moment. As soon as I have some free time I will definitely check it out.

I finally cleared my oh-so-busy schedule of being a Dad(!) and popped this in the Blu-Ray last night. It certainly invoked all the right moods, sounds and colors of the season of the Witch.
I had to temper my expectations, given the hype this film has received in the horror community. I think it just fell short of brilliant, perhaps it was its rather short running time. It's a minor grievance that I can't fully articulate, but overall, it works extremely well and is a welcome addition to the genre that seems destined for some kind of cult status.
I attempted to listen to the audio commentary and it did offer some insightful tidbits, but the cough medicine was kicking in and it was lights out!
I most likely will purchase the DVD, given that it lends itself to repeat viewings just to soak in the atmosphere of Halloween.

Glad you liked it. I agree with your assessment, it's definately a solid 4 but not a savior for the genre or anything. I'll have to check out the commentary myself sometime.

I concur. Not the Second Coming of horror films, but a substantial entry in the genre that is refreshingly, not a remake!
I particularly enjoyed the Quarry vignette. The most effective, and atmospherically creepy!

I wanted to get this one, I really did. BUt they were charging 24 bucks for it at FYE and that just seemed excessive. None of the other local stores had it at all. I had every intention to participate, but once the reviews came back saying it was only alright, I couldn't justify paying full price for this film. Sorry to let you folks down

Yeah the quarry one was great BD.
And don't feel bad HNT I wouldn't have paid that high either. Got mine new on amazon for $15. Definately pick it up at some point, I think you'll want it in your collection but wait til it drops to $15 or $10.

Sorry to let you folks down 24 bucks, even for Blu-Ray is unacceptable. I was browsing Best Buy this morning and saw it for 19.99 on standard DVD. The film is good, but the pre-hype snowballed and with the bar raised so high, there is the invariable let down effect. Netflix comes to the rescue, provided you don't have to wait forever for a title!

I saw it somewhere on DVD for 13 dollars, but I can't remember where....I was going to pick it up, and then decided to wait, because its one I would like on Blu-ray (just because that is how we first watched it). Netflix is perfect for us, BD.....we buy a lot, but we watch a whole lot more. We would be totally broke if it wasn't for Netflix....LOL... I do think that the film was hyped too much (that's what happens when they hold onto a film for so damn long, it should have gotten a theatrical release awhile back, I actually think its much better than most of the horror hitting theaters lately, and like BD mentioned, not a remake) but I ignored that, and just enjoyed the film. I don't know what others were expecting, but I got exactly what I expected, and wanted, from this movie.

Yes, Jen, without Netflix, I'd be racking up the amazon.com/Best-Buy purchases where I'd hafta get a second job. The film is a must view for any serious or even causal horror film fan, it has some visually creepy textures that immerse one in the Halloween spirit.

I guess I'm the exception in that I was oblivious to any hype surrounding the movie and went in just expecting average modern horror. See there's some benefits to not reading, lol.

Yes, I agree. I browse the boards over at Dread Central and I read lotsa commentary by people, so I can say sometimes ignorance is bliss!
