Well, I'm still not a fan, and this is coming from a person that'll eat anything as long as meat is involved of any kind.
And there's still several things I just don't understand about the Holiday:
1. Why is it that, any other day of the year, we never give this bird another look when it comes to deciding what to eat, yet for this one particular day it's sacred, hallowed ground that we must eat it? Seems pointless, like a tradition that makes no sense at all.
2. That goes along with all the other traditional foods eaten here. From stuffing, yams, cranberries, and others, along with the turkey, why has these foods been reserved strictly for one day out of the year?
3. We all know from elementary school that the pilgrims celebrated this with the Indians after they survived the winter, yet the placing of it is before the winter. In the true spirit of the recognition of the Holiday, we really should be celebrating this in the new year (personally, I'd vote to switch with Valentine's Day and then drop that one completely, but that's just me).

I agree the traditions are silly and unnecessary, just one of those things that lives on because your family drags you into it I guess lol.
No family and i'd be eating KFC like your neighbor on the 26th.

To me its about being with a family and celebrating what we are thankful for in our lives. None of the rest matters, but tradition is nice to me. Its comforting, as I am sure it is to many other people. As for turkey, who WANTS to cook a turkey more than once or twice a year....haha....as it has been pointed out, its not exactly easy to cook. Its not something you just decide to pop in the oven....chicken is easier. However, the other food you mentioned has never been reserved for only one day of the year in my family. And personally, I don't know why anyone would choose to eat at KFC, anytime of the year....LOL...I don't care for their chicken at all.

Yeah I actually stopped eating KFC as it would give me horrible stomach aches for what seem to be obvious reasons. And that new grilled chicken stuff they're pumping all over tv looks unappetizing coming from them. I'll grill my own chicken thank you.

What's this about a Black friday?I'm assuming that it refers to a basically dead day between a holiday thursday and the weekend,But as we dont acknowledge Thanksgiving here in oz, i guess i'm out of the loop Its a retail term.....its the day most here start their Christmas shopping, so its the busiest day for most stores. And there are all kinds of deals on just about anything you can think of.....but its freakin' insane. People have died. Seriously. Because apparently few things bring out the stupid in people here like "cheap".....

Well, looks like my turkey embargo has worked: I'm the only one among my family not nursing the after-effects of a severe case of overeating and stomach aches brought about by basically eating out everything that was cooked for the occasion, as my chicken and mac-and-cheese left me feeling quite normal afterwords while everyone was unfastening buttons and letting loose Level-5 biohazards around each other, so I was the smart one after all.
But on a serious note, hope everyone had a safe holiday and is ready to get back to their normal lives.

I hope all had a Happy Turkey Day.
Just got back from rural upstate NY at the ole bone Daddy bone yard.
No internet, TV service or cell phones. Peace and quiet!

No complaints about my holiday. Glad you guys enjoyed yours and glad you're back. It was pretty dead around here the past 5 days or so.

Had a great holiday, thank you. Glad to hear that you all did as well. As for GL's point, turkey is hard to cook and takes an obscenely long time to prepare. Even still, we have it for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and since I never celebrate either of those holidays in my own home, but I always qualify for the free turkey from the Supermarket, I usually have it at least one more time throughout the year.
As for Black Friday, Jen gave the best possible description of it. They offer ridiculous prices on items to the first ten or so shoppers at every store, wind up with people lining up overnight, and then don't have enough to go around. I am honestly surprised that it so rarely results in full scale riots (although it does occasionally)

Eh, turkey's still not good enough to justify the cooking time. It's dry, bland and way to filling. Give me chicken any day of the week.
And another comment on that Black Friday thing, a few years ago I was involved in one such instance. It was when those Tickle Me Elmo's first came out, and my little sister wanted one, and I got stuck with giving it to her. I knew it wasn't going to be there into December, so I went on Friday after I got off work, which back then was in the afternoons. I head to a toy-store about a block from where I worked then, figuring that was good enough to still find one without getting trampled, and the crowd there was so insane I literally had to tackle people to get into the aisle to get the toy. When I managed to snag one through sheer luck (it was misstocked on the aisle, so no one could find it where the signs were indicating they were) I go up to the check-out stand when I come out of the aisle into the open store where I get bum-rushed by three mothers who combined weighed close to 1,000 pounds, who end up putting me through one of the signs set up for the event. In the confusion, either one stepped on my arm or that was how I crashed into the sign, but it almost broke my arm afterword. I ended up having to wear a cast on my arm for a few weeks, and there's still a scar on my arm because of it, so I've got my own story about this event.

Ouch, you truly have experienced the violence of that day firsthand lol. Hope your sister was appreciative of her Elmo. I remember that year, everyone wanted those damn things.

Yeah, she was at the time. But she grew out of it, and we sold it at a yard sale a couple years ago. One of the first things to go.
