Voivod are one of the pioneers of progressive Metal, they are from Jonquière, Quebec, Canada. They formed in 1982 and released their first album in 1984.
* Snake - lead vocals
* Piggy - guitars
* Blacky - bass
* Away - drums
The name of the band was taken from Bram Stoker's novel Dracula, when Vlad was a defender of the church the soldiers that he commanded were known as the voivod. The idea for the band came from the drawings that Away had done when he was younger, a kind of a post nuclear war vampire character, who eventually would come to be known as "Korgull"
The band really started to come into their own with the release of thier forth album Dimension Hatröss. It was at this time that the lyrics in the songs started to concentrate and focus on a particular theme, which they would often come back to on future albums.
Much of the band's sound comes from guitarist Piggy's usage of dissonant chords, usually played in the high register of the guitar, used extensively on Nothingface. Albums like Dimension Hatröss are dominated by dissonant chords, unexpected time signatures and guitarist Piggy's liberal use of unconventional minor chords. Today the influence of Voivod can be seen in bands such as Mudvayne and Tool.
An alien race travels through the universe looking for planets that they can drain of energy to further their unknown plans. These beings come to earth in space ships that are actually huge factories, they also at times bring all kinds of weired and strange machines to earth to suck up the planets resources.
The aliens civilization and technology is apparently fueled by the processing of the mineral known as aluminum (bauxite ore), which is the most abundant metal in the Earth's crust, and the third most abundant element. As a result of the processing the pure aluminum is extracted, leaving behind as a byproduct toxic sludge and bauxite smoke, as well as many other toxins.
The ultimate result, among other things, is the depletion of the ozone and various diseases such as Alzheimer's.
