I'd say its a 4. Classic stalking scenes, impressive killer, utterly fantastic kills and a great sense of fun. Just forgot how long it takes to actually get going on the stalking and killing, which is pretty late into the film, and most of the scares at the beginning are kinda lame on repeat viewings. It still holds up incredibly well, though.

A classic no doubt but a little campy, the ending is also a little annoying.

This is one of my favorite slashers, I think its a lot of fun, though I agree it is a bit campy (part of why I love it) . I watch it every year on Valentine's Day (now to be paired up with the remake, which I also thought was a lot of fun). I bought the Special Edition when it was first released here, and its one of my favorite purchases, it was great to finally get to see what was missing. We had to wait long enough.... I give it a 4.

This one gets a 4 from me too. This is one slasher I can't help but love there's just something about the campy nature and how it embodied the early 80s slasher.

It's hard to imagine this film now without the added footage, and has probably raised my rating from 3.5 to 4.
Watching the '81 version back to back with it's remake this morning,I found the original to be more creepier and nastier, and ultimately more satisfying.

I gave it a three personally. I think it is a pretty solid 80'sslasher, albeit a bit derivative. To be honest, with the restored footage I might up it to around a 3.5 or a 4 as Matt said. GL is also correct that it takes a little longer to get rolling than it should. Anyone who says that slashers don't spend enough time on character development has not seen this one (although the caveat is that this is only a positive if the characters are interesting and worthwhile). Still, the killer looks pretty cool, the abandoned mine is a nifty little setting, and the idea of killing kids with a pick axe is pretty gruesome and worthy of a horor film. Not the best holiday themed 80's slasher by a long shot, but far from the worst either

I've always been a fan of the setting for this one as well, it's a really creepy place to unleash some thrills and is a definite location that can be put into play a lot more often.

Believe it or not, I haven't seen this one. So I order this version online but they sent me the remake. Looks like I won't be seeing it anytime soon.

Last time I was at Walmart, they had it for like 9 bucks.

I picked up my version at Best Buy when it first came out for a little more than that. It shouldn't be more than $15 in most stores, CT.
