The Hurt LockerDirected by Kathryn Bigelow and starring Jeremy Renner, this film takes place in Iraq and follows a unit who's extremely suspenseful job is to disarm the roadside bombs planted by insurgents. Winner of the Best Picture Oscar.

Nope, it's a suspenseful war drama with top notch directing and acting. It is also an independent film which is awesome when you think about the fact that it beat out Avatar for best picture. Coincidentally, Kathyrn Bigelow the director of Hurt Locker is James Camerons ex.

I give it an easy five because it is so well made. BUT, that comes with the qualifying statement that I am not about to watch it again any time soon. I love war films, but the really effective ones are quite difficult for me to watch

but the really effective ones are quite difficult for me to watch They are hard for me to watch as well, which is why I still haven't seen this I think. We even had it here from Netflix for awhile, and never could get in the mood to watch it....didn't make sense to keep it anymore. Thought about buying it, so it will be here if the mood strikes.

It's actually far less gory than I thought it would be given the subject matter. The suspense is what packs a punch rather than lots of brutal deaths. Still not easy to watch but don't wait too long Jen.

Yes, the suspense is intense, and so is the dpressing nature of the whole thing. It is hard to watch a film about the Iraq war without being oversome with thoughts about what a horrific god damn waste the whole damn thing is.
