Sorry I haven't been around for several weeks and sorry I'm late with the motm pick since it's my month to go. Work a d personal life been stressful lately. Since the month is half over I figured a movie we've already discussed before might be appropriate so there will be less to say. Also happens to be one of my favorites and one most if not all of you have seen it. CREEPSHOW (1982) Comic book themed horror anthology based on the horror comics of the 1950's. Written by Stephen King and directed by George Romero. Starring Leslie Nielsen, Hal Holbrook, Ted Danson, Tom Atkins, and Ed Harris What is your opinion and rating of this horror classic of the 1980's...?

I give it a solid 4. The stand outs for me are "Father's Day" and "They're Creeping Up On You", those are my favorites. The other stories are fun, but not as good.
Might be time to watch this one again, its been awhile.

Deserves a 5, as you said classic 80s horror.

Since you put halfsies, I'll go with 4.5 Jody Verill has no place being in this film, and The Crate is somewhat too long, but the rest are solid (on the bad side), if not perfect entries and easily off-set the two shitfests. They're there, though, so it gets the half-mark.

5 from me. There really is nothing here that I don't at least enjoy a bit. To me, the standouts are They're Creeping Up on You and The Crate ( I love Hal Holbrook and Barbeau is just brilliantly bitchy in this one). Jody Verrill is the weakest, but its fun. Father's Day scared the piss out of me when I was a kid, and the skeleton zombie is still a sweet effect, but it just isn't my favorite one of the bunch. For some reason, nobody ever seems to mention Something to Tide you Over. That one is the most genuinely frightening of all to me. The zombie finale is kind of whatever, but Leslie Nielson's revenge plot is scary as hell.
Oh, and on a side note, my parents actually bought me that Creepshow graphic novel that is the subject of your photos when I was a kid. It was a lot of fun, and really well done. I loved it even more once my particularly pompous uncle made a very big deal about the sexual innuendo in The Crate (Billie says someting about being able to ram her with a ramrod or something to that effect). Did anyone else have the graphic novel? Wish I still did. Something tells me that if it is out of print its a collector's item these days

I still like it and the casting, but I just don't find it as memorable as the others. Except for Jody Verrill, which I definitely agree is the weakest.

Im sure everyone knows this already but the crate from creepshow can be seen in Jason goes to hell when the mother falls into the celler.

Something to Tide You Over is definitely my favorite of the bunch as well, HNT, for their zombie effects are quite good and their slow march upon him is just wonderfully done. The atmosphere is really good, and it definitely gets a lot of favor on my end.

Im sure everyone knows this already but the crate from creepshow can be seen in Jason goes to hell when the mother falls into the celler. I didn't know that actually. Very interesting and cool. I will definitely look for it if I ever find myself in a position where checking out Jason Goes to Hell again seems like a good idea. And, GL, cool to see that somebody else digs that one. To me, the zomie finale is alright, and certainly necessary to give it the whole horror anthology Tales From the Crypt type vibe, but the really effective part of that one is Leslie Nielson's revenge plot. I know he was once a serious actor, but I really only knew him for Airplane and The naked Gun series aside from this. It was kind of interesting to see him play a very sinister character and do it pretty convincingly. Plus, there is something about it that just seems like the one of the worst possible ways to die

Well, like you I had seen his Naked Gun and Airplane films (plus a couple of others in a similar vein) but I knew that he wasn't just a comedic actor by the time I had first seen this one. I knew he was a dramatic actor, but hadn't seen any of them at the time, so to me it was just another one of those episodes where I knew a familiar face, like I always do. I will agree on the set-up which is like you said one of the worst ways possible to die, but I just love me some rampaging zombie goodness.

Actually, now that I think about it, I had seen Airplane before this movie, but Naked Gun hadn't even comeout yet by the time I first saw Creepshow on HBO back in the 80's. Loved every moment of it then and now. Back then, it all seemed so damn scary. Watching it today, it is more of a comic bood over the top feel, which is fun but not all that scary really. I think it is incredibly well done

Well the here is another interesting fact, the comic book style of Creepshow was inspired by The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Well the here is another interesting fact, the comic book style of Creepshow was inspired by The Rocky Horror Picture Show. How would that be? It is so clearly modeled after the old EC comics of the 50's, especially Tales From the Crypt. The Creep is almost exactly the same as the original Crypt Keeper. I don't see the similarity to Rocky Horror at all. Wierd...

I loved this but I have to admit I liked Creepshow 2 better but I think that is because I seen it first. But my fav is either the story with Stephen King getting transformed into a plant or "Something to Tide You Over" thinking of dying that way almst makes me hyperventilate. Yeah I know I prob misspelled that.

No, your spelling is solid. Your preference for Creepshow 2, however, is kinda not. And, although I liked Jody Verrill alright, I definitely think it was the weakest entry in this movie. Something to Tide You Over seems to kind of get overlooked, but it has gotten a good bit of love on this thread, so that makes me smile
