Exactly HNT. I even hate to see a bad film remade. Get those fuckers lazy asses out there and have them make their own movie. The Hills Have Eyes remake was not great either people. It was ok and passable, but is definitely not on the same level as the original. Fuck remakes.

Rarely does a remake do justice to the original. I thought the HHE remake was a pretty solid effort all around.

I was bit harsh in that post above. lol. THHE remake was ok, but on a second look its not as good. There are alot of scenes they left out which made the original what it is, i.e. the ending. I could not believe they left out the original ending and put one of those "we're safe now, but wait....we can have a sequel too." endings. Another thing I hated was that they never really showed the deformed family unless they were attacking. I know they were trying to go their own way with the film, but I felt like they kept some parts original that they could have expanded upon, but then they excluded parts that they should have kept.

I have yet to see The Hils Have Eyes remake, but I am looking forward to it. And yes, Frank it is a very rare remake that measures up in any way to the original, and you can always find fault, but there usually doesn't even seem to be an attempt made to pay any kind of respect to the original film. They could put a little more thought into it while STILL banking on the name. But they choose not to, because they know most people just don't care, they will go see it, sometimes not even having a clue that it is a remake. Sometimes, knowing but not taking the time to see the original film because it is "old". And I think that is what really irritates me. Hearing what a great movie the TCM remake is, how it makes the original look like "Mary Poppins" (yes, someone actually said those words to me). Some people just completely miss the point, and have a total lack of imagination. And that saddens me. Horror movies seem to be missing something these days; they seem less fun and less smart at the same time. Maybe I am just stuck in the past.....*sighs*....I have been accused of that often. The new horror films I really, really enjoy seem to be throwbacks (The Devil's Rejects for instance) but they still manage to be their OWN film. Maybe that's it, there isn't much risk taking in horror anymore.

Exactly. TDR is the only recent horror film that has made me go "wow..that was fucking great movie."

There are a handful of great remakes. The Invasion of the body Snatchers remake is every bit as good as the original. I consider the entire Hammer catalog of films to be remakes (or at the very least reimaginings) of the Universal classics. In a very real way, I think that the Evil Dead was already remade (thematically at least) in Evil Dead 2. in any case, there have been several examples of good remakes. I admit, though, that there are many more bad ones that you can point to

No,no,no,no Evil Dead 2 is in no way a remake of The Evil Dead. The story in Evil Dead 2 takes place right after The Evil Dead. Just like how the story of Halloween 2 takes place right after Halloween.

Latest news, I don't know if its true or not. The newest thing about the remake that I've heard is that it will have no Ash. A group of teens go to a cabin in the woods and find the book and play the tape and unleash the evil and that is the only similarities the remake and the old one will have. I don't know if thats good news or not. :/

Yeah a Evil Dead movie without Ash does not sound that good to me.

How do you remake a classic horror film and remove the protagonist? That would be like remaking Jaws and not having Chief Brody, or Alien without Ripley!

Is this still happening? All i've been hearing about lately is Rob Zombie's "Halloween".

Not exactley sure but this is a good site for updates, www.deadites.net/I am not surprised one bit that Halloween overshadows most anything else, RZ's remake is a big deal surrounded by contreversy.

I had heard it was ''stalled'' but could be way out of date. And if that is valid, I am not upset in the least.
Maybe I'm exaggerating the analogy here, but to me remaking Evil Dead without Ash would be like remaking Citizen Kane without Rosebud.
