Starring: Ben Affleck, Jeremy Renner, Jon Hamm, Rebecca Hall, Blake Lively Genre: Crime Drama Theatrical Length: 125 Minutes Extended Length: 153 Minutes Charlestown was once a small separate town just to north of Boston, until it was annexed by the major port city in the 1870's. In current times, Charlestown is a largely Irish-American working class neighborhood no different from so many other neighborhoods around the nation except for one unique characteristic. This neighborhood has a history of a peculiar and unorthodox trade which has been cultivated and handed down for generations: Bank Robbery. Doug McRay is a second generation bank robber who has been doing jobs with a team of local friends, until something goes wrong on their latest escapade. A hostage is taken, and this unleashes a chain of events that involves everything from unadvisable romantic relationships to pursuit by the FBI and one especially determined agent.

I go 4.5. It had great action, good performances, and actually a little bit of emotional gravitas in some of the relationships. Bottom line, I haven't seen this one since the theaters and I still remember quite a bit of it. Considering how forgettable most action movies are, that is high praise indeed

I was pleasantly surprised by this one as well. Well written, if very unbelievable plot and great action and performances.
4.5 from me too.

I thought this was very well done. And the performances are quite good, especially Jeremy Renner. I have to say, I am pretty impressed with Affleck as a director. I also really like Gone Baby Gone.
4.5 from me as well.

He apparently is quite a good director. And I loved Renner in it as well although I don't disagree with Bale winning the best supporting Oscar for The Fighter, he was superb in that. I was rooting for either one of them to win it.

I don't think that Jeremy Renner should've won for this movie. He was brilliant in The Hurt Locker and Dahmer, and is a great actor. I agree that he brought more to this role than was expected and than it required, but it was still just a supporting character in an action film. Not Best Supporting Actor material in my book, though he has given performances in other films that were clearly award worthy

I watched this one like 3 times when I first got it on Blu-Ray but haven't watched it since. I'm due for another viewing soon I think.

I never wound up buying it becuase it is on cable so much that I have seen it a lot. Eventually, when it isn't on cable anymore, I will probably buy it.
