'tis that time again and, as I'm away for the weekend (at Alice Cooper's Halloween Show on sunday ) I thought I'd get this one up a day or two early. Achingly plain and frumpy twins Maria and Frieda are singularly unimpressed with their puritanical uncle's record collection and so become enamoured of local hairy Count Karnstein's reputed flair for wicked disco dancing and whiskey laced porridge. Vampiric high jinx ensue. Rate this film on a scale of 1-5 Stars, 5 being the best. 0 is not an option.

A 4 easy here. Tons of boobage, lots of lesbianism and the minor descent into vampire antics mixed with Gothic settings and action make for a good time, but a severely underutilized Cushing and a storyline that at times seems to be more about the gimmick ploy of having twins in the mix without doing anything special with them cause this one to be somewhat letdown.
An improvement over the prudish but still underrated Lust for a Vampire, but a far cry from the apex of the lesbian vampire genre, The Vampire Lovers.

Yeah, boobage rules. Interesting you should mention Lust for a Vampire and The Vampire Lovers as i just picked them up too, along with Vampire Circus and Countess Dracula. We had intended to do a Karnstein triple bill on Halloween but we were so knackered after a very late night on Sunday following Alice Cooper's marvellous Halloween show that we ended up in bed at 9.30 (getting old). Behold...

Vampire Lovers is one of the best there is in the genre, and it's also one of the best vampire films in general practice, highly recommended fare there. Sadly, I don't own them anymore to do a triple bill like that, only Lust has managed to survive in a somewhat decent shape so I need to update the series as a whole, which means importing this missing segment as we don't have an R1 for this entry.

Finally got round to watching Twins last night (I've recently become obsessed with Man vs Food at the expense of most other telly) and it's just as good as I remember. Cushing is great, at times coasting but has some genuinely fantastic acting moments as a conflicted, dark and angry puritan. The twins themselves are glorious, I read that they were dubbed but it's very well done and not really noticeable. Great turn from David Warbeck too, although his acting wasn't good enough to convince me that throwing the half naked Frieda off him was at all believable, vampire teeth or not. The only real weakness is Count Karnstein, he's a bit of a weed. Shame that Ingrid Pitt didn't reprise her role but it was only a tiny part so unsurprising.
All in all a healthy 4 for being fun, saucy, more lavish looking than I remember (never seen it in its correct aspect ratio before) and having quality Cushing action.

MAn vs. Food is very entertaining, and it definitely does a great job of highlighting some of the various delicious regional American cuisine. I have to say, though, that it is a bit embarassing to watch such a display of stereotypical American gluttony on the screen.

I have never seen this, and they don't have it at Netflix. Guess I will have to search around a bit.

Don't worry HNT, as far as I'm concerned it just makes me want to visit the states.

Well, should you find yourself in the New England area and want to get a look at NY or Boston you have a place to crash my friend.

No R1 DVD of this one available, even though the other two in the Karnstein trilogy are (Vampire Lovers and Lust I mentioned earlier) and I don't have my VHS of it anymore so you're gonna have to import it or find a bootleg.

It appears I made another faux pas in my choice of movie (in addition to choosing out of turn). I had no idea this was currently such a rare title in the US. I promise to do better next time.

Hey I am just glad the motm is active again.... I would really like to see it. Funny I love The Vampire Lovers, but I haven't seen Lust for a Vampire either.

Nice we've gotten some new interest in the section, and I just absolutely love Vampire Lovers, continually challenges for the top spot of my favorite vampire film of all time. Lust is good, it's really underrated and definitely available on DVD, but we wary that it's far too "British" if that makes any sense. There's no real change of energy or passion in it and it tends to feel very prudish about dealing with the subject matter, whereas Vampire Lovers is a lot more lively and energetic and wholly up to dealing with this type of situation.
