The original classic! A scientist has a horrific accident when he tries to use his newly invented teleportation device. Starring Vincent Price Thoughts?

Oh my, the Fly.
Well, its a Vincent Price movie so 5 from me, of course every Vincent Price movie gets a 5 from me.
Far superior to the sequel, the original was subtle, the sequel was a result of the growing popularity of creature features.

Saw this last night and I feel terrible about going so low but I can't give it more than a 3. To me, this one never really seems to fit well into the horror genre and feels more like a Sci-Fi effort that manages to turn into a horror film in the last act since the opening has the murder already occur off-camera, the ensuing investigation take forever for her to unload the real story with the constant back-and-forth of her being insane or not and then the movie proper tend to focus on the scientific investigation of the machine and the strain on their relationship as it gradually goes about telling the story. It's not until the final act that anything really approaching horror is documented even though that is exceptionally fun stuff with the slow-burn of his change and the glimpses demented appearance generating some fun before he goes crazy and the finale which is still outright classic material. Still, by taking so little horror it feels a little light in comparison to some of the others that came out at that time.

Don't worry man I gave it a 3 as well. The sequel is a lot better.

Here's hoping, because I may have to lower it even further when I noticed a mark against it I never saw the first time around when I found it pointed out on online reviews: the stupidity of the science fiction on display. This is a guy that invented a manner of transporting matter across the Earth instantaneously, yet mankind will never have that knowledge now. It's been lost forever, all because he never put a screen up inside the portal to keep stuff out. What an idiot, that can be possible for mankind yet your stupidity is keeping it from us?

The fact that the son is trying to catch them with a butterfly net, I doubt they had fly-swatters, much less fly-traps.
